On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the best high school Long Snappers in the country visited the IMG Academy to train with Rubio Long Snapping and compete at the prestigious TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE camp!
This camp is obviously filled with talent as all Long Snappers are great and could be written about in this blog, but I will only mention a few that really stood out to me.
The top overall Long Snapper and champion (second time in a row!) was Thomas Fletcher! The recent Alabama commit left absolutely no doubt he is the best Long Snapper in the country and it is not even close. He handles pressure (check out the domination in the finals HERE) as well as anyone I have ever had, has absolutely zero wasted movement and has tremendous hips. The bigger and stronger he gets, the more dominate he will become in college and beyond. Fletcher is easily one of the top Long Snappers to ever go through Rubio Long Snapping.
Notable 2017 Long Snappers
Kyle Gibbs has been improving drastically as of late and is really coming along. He was very consistent throughout the camp and had good speed on all three days. Moves well on his feet and was impressive.
Mitch Hall showed excellent accuracy and consistency in FL. Body is built long and he has room to put on some good weight and size over the next couple of years. Smooth Long Snapper with great form. More explosion at the start of the snapping motion will help a bit with overall speed.
Jacob Potter was very impressive over the three day span at IMG. Body is beyond strong and he is doing much better moving his feet and being more agile on them. He is starting to snap with great power and confidence which is great for him but bad for the others in his class. Potter had a great three days under a lot of pressure.
Joe Calcagno is a thick, strong and snaps with great power. Ball can be very tight and right on target when he follows through and snaps hard. Upside is tremendous on this recent Penn St. commit. Make sure you continue to watch him this year and beyond as he can be one of the best out there.
Notable 2018 Long Snappers
Ross Reiter was unshakeable all week in FL. He is a very thick, strong Long Snapper with a tight spiral and excellent accuracy. Ball really pops back to the punter and is catchable. One of the prettiest snaps you will see in the country. Excellent attitude.
Oscar Shadley is a very athletic Long Snapper with a D1 frame and he still has a year of high school left. Powerful Long Snapper that looks like he could play multiple positions in college. The sky is the limit for this Long Snapper.
Roen McCullough looks to have the most upside of the 2018 Long Snappers. When Roen is on, there is no one that is even close to him in his class. Body is large, he is strong and he can rip the ball back to the punter. Consistency of his greatness will be the key for Roen moving up the rankings and taking the top spot!
Belly Flop Champions!
Congratulation to Marshall Coluzzi as he took back the title for the Long Snappers in the annual belly flop contest! You can actually watch the whole contest HERE on Periscope.
