Right after signing day, a high school athlete will start to get invited to countless college camps across the country. They will get your information from RubioLongSnapping.com. These invites can be quite appealing but let me clear them up for you….
- The camps usually happen within the month of June
- Everyone gets invited. Don’t feel special.
- Check out the roster first. If a school just offered a Long Snapper a scholarship the year before, they will NOT be offering another one the following year.
- The summer between your junior and senior year is the key time to go.
- The summers between your freshman and junior year is a time to go to one or two just to get your feet wet and see the process.
- DO NOT GO TO TOO MANY. I can’t say this enough. I say it every year and every year I see Long Snappers hitting five to ten camps in June and killing their chances to go to college. Your body will break down, your form will go to trash and your snapping will suffer. You do poorly at one and the word will spread. All the coaches know each other and will talk about you.
- I would recommend NO MORE THAN THREE in the summer.
- Don’t expect much instruction from these camps. They are usually just cattle calls with TONS of Snapping. Pace yourself.
