Recap of the CA Camp (3/6/16)

CA Camp2016Rubio Long Snapping traveled to CA on March 6th for their spring camp.

Long Snappers came out from CA, AZ, NV, CO & UT to learn from the best and get the most exposure possible for Long Snapping.

The overall winner of the camp was John Aloma! Aloma was on fire all day and Utah Ute commit was the first Long Snapper to ever win the accuracy and speed competition. His confidence is overflowing right now and his ball jumps back to the punter. He is looking ready for college now!

TOP 2016 LONG SNAPPERS:

Johnny Den Bleyker

Johnny Den Bleyker

Johnny Den Bleyker was the best overall Long Snapper in attendance. His form is fantastic and his hands are rockets. ZERO wasted movement. Ball pops right out of the gate. UCLA got a great one.

  • Damon Johnson was outstanding all day. His ball seems to pick up speed on the way back to the punter. Very driven Long Snapper that does all of his speaking with his snaps. USC is lucky to get him

  • Riley Shackelford just committed to Portland State and you could see why they offered him a full ride. Kid is good, thick, strong and powerful with his snaps. Ball moves and his smooth.
  • Koby Walsh, who recently committed to UCLA as a preferred walk on, handled pressure very well and could have won the whole thing
  • Curtis Hernandez might just be the smoothest Long Snapper in the class of 2016. Definitely a sleeper of that class right now. Good upside.

Notables: Tim O’Donnel, Blake Gifford, James Kozachenko, Tanner Miller and Jacob Mimoun

TOP 2017 LONG SNAPPERS:

Kyle Gibbs

Kyle Gibbs

Kyle Gibbs was purely poetic in his snapping all day in CA. Ball is FAST and he has really improved on his accuracy and consistency. The more consistent he gets, the better he will be. 5 Stars by XXVIII should be his goal.

  • Devin Noth showed great athleticism and when he is on, he is REALLY on. Gaining some consistency will be huge before XXVIII.
  • Karson Thomas has great size and snaps the ball with power. Could be the sleeper of his class. Great upside.
  • Noah Rodriguez-Trammel has tons of potential and is a flat out stud when snaps with full power.
  • Peter Snodgrass was impressive all day. Little tweaks will make him unstoppable. Great improvement of the last year.

Notables: Koltin Anderson, Gavin Cambell, Johnny Fuentes, Michael Lacilento, Caleb Lawver, Alex Michaelsen, Andrew Toothman

TOP 2018 LONG SNAPPERS:

Ross Reiter

Ross Reiter

Ross Reiter left no doubt he was the best 2018 Long Snapper in attendance. I timed him in the low .6s and he has an excellent spiral on his ball. Very catchable. If he can get his eyes through each time, have fun out there and get set, he will be a 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper by XXVIII.

  • Brendan Bentley had waves of brilliance, when he is on…he is really on. Needs to focus heavily on making sure he gets both of his hands on the ball and THEN snaps.
  • Charles DeRosier was very consistent and has done a great job of improving over the years.
  • Kyle Petrucci has major upside and when he trusts his form, he will punish the punter.
  • Joseph Ramos is a massive man that will simply be as good as he wants to be. If he pushes himself, he could take the top spot in his class.

Notables: Rob Fiene, Jake Radwan, Ace Thayer, James Townsend, Jac Casasante, Gabriel Cervantes and Matt Garcia

TOP 2019 LONG SNAPPERS:

Simon Samarzich

Simon Samarzich

Simon Samarzich had a great day in CA. He moves well on his feet and can snap the ball back in the .7s. If he pushes himself a bit more with his Long Snapping, he could be one of the best ever. Consistency will be key by XXVIII in May.

  • Nathan Weneta is right on the cusp of greatness. He is growing by the second and might be the fastest running Long Snapper in his class. Kid flies through agility drills.

  • Ryan Aguilar has tons of upside and could be one of the greats
  • Dylan Black showed good poise and he has some solid speed on the ball.

Notables: Ryan Aguilar

TOP 2020 LONG SNAPPERS:

I was equally impressed with three 8th grade Long Snappers in attendance: Aaron Estrada, Kameron Hawkins and AJ Laux. All are working with great form and are handling pressure well. Definitely keep an eye on these three over the next couple of years.

Recap Article of the CA Fall Camp (10/18/15)

CA
Rubio Long Snapping traveled to CA on October 18th for their fall camp. The camp had perfect weather and the talent was off the charts. CA is quickly becoming the hotbed of Long Snapping talent from top to bottom.

Long Snappers came out from CA, NV, AZ, CO & TX to learn from the best and get the most exposure possible for Long Snapping.

The overall winner of the camp, and new 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper, was Conner Kirkegaard (CA, ’16)! Kirkegaard, who has recently committed to Air Force, was outstanding all day in CA. He was snapping with a great deal of confidence (as he should be) and just letting the ball rip back to the punter. I was very impressed with Kirkegaard and Air Force will be as well!

TOP 2016 LONG SNAPPERS:

  • Damon Johnson, who has recently committed to West Virginia on full scholarship, was snapping smooth, crisp balls all day long. Speed is very strong and so is his attitude. His turn to win a big one.
  • John Aloma throws absolute heat back to the punter. VERY catchable ball and, EASILY, one of the best attitudes in the country. He will make a college coach very happy next year.
  • Koby Walsh continues to impress me with his drive and work ethic. Very smooth Long Snapper that will dominate when ALL of his snaps are full power.
  • Riley Shackelford can pass an eyeball test quickly and throw some severe heat back to the punter when it all clicks. Great attitude.
  • Matt O’Donoghue is thick, strong and snaps a great ball. This sleeper might no longer be sleeping.
  • Jacob Mimoun has improved as much as anyone over the past couple of years. Built very long and starting to really snap with confidence.
  • Jack Brennan has come out of nowhere and is very much in the conversation as one of the top Long Snappers in his class. Very athletic and always improving.

  • Brendan Bentley is a very smooth Long Snapper that is always improving. Kid is a workhorse and continues to impress me.
  • Andrew Domingo, pound of pound, was one of the best Long Snappers in CA. Of course, he needs to gain some pounds, but man can this kid snap the ball. Very impressive to watch him use ALL of  his body.
  • Matt Garcia has tremendous form and is the silent assassin of his class. Confidence will be key as we move forward.

Notables: Charles De Rosier, Matt Tokos
