Recap of the College Camp

Overall Champion Kyle Varnell of UAB

Rubio Long Snapping held it’s annual college camp for Long Snappers either currently in a four year university or those headed to one this fall. Long Snappers from all over the map came to Tampa, FL. to train with and against the best in the world of college football.

The winner of the overall competition was Kyle Varnell of the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Kyle is a long athlete that moves very well on his feet. His ball is very smooth and catchable with excellent speed. Upside on Kyle is off the charts. He has a tremendous personality and is definitely the type of person that will be successful in whatever he chooses to do in life.

TOP LONG SNAPPERS

Ryan Farr of the Florida Gators was on fire Saturday and Sunday in Tampa. His form is darn near perfect and he is snapping the ball with a lot of power and agression. The thicker and stronger he gets, the better his overall power will be as he moves towards the NFL.

Steven Nixon of Mercer was excellent all weekend. He is strong, built well, moves like an athlete and is extremely consistent with his snapping. Not uncommon for Nixon to snap the ball in the .6s and right on the punter’s hip. Great overall personality and a Long Snapper the next generation could look up to.

Damon Johnson of USC (Southern Cal) was throwing absolute heat all weekend. Ball never even came close to .75 or higher. Damon is a very athletic Long Snapper that is driven to be the best in the country. Very powerful ball in short or long snaps.

Anthony Ratliff of East Carolin University was solid from start to finish with very accurate and consistent snaps to the punters and holders. Physically fit Long Snapper with great form and a smooth snap.

Logan Klusman of the Kansas Jayhawks was very sharp in Tampa. Body is maturing and he is snapping a very smooth and accurate ball. Ball can jump at the punter. The quicker his hands get at the start, the better he will be in the long run.

Jonathan Scandrett of Florida International University was throwing some very fast snaps back on both days. Listens well and has good upside. Ball could sting a punter if they aren’t paying attention. Built very athletically and once he extends a bit more, his ball will be more accurate and even quicker.

Peter Snodgrass of Northwestern looked extremely solid all weekend. Just heading into college and already looks like he has been snapping at the college level for years. Great upside and Snodgrass is definitely one to watch over the next couple of years.

Ian Lauvai of Sacramento State had a great camp. Thick and strong Long Snapper that was snapping pearls non-stop to the punters. Big fan of his demeanor and how calm he is under pressure.

Elias McMurry of Appalachian State is powerful and has done a great job transforming his body into that of a college athlete. When he gets his eyes through, he is as good as anyone in the country.

Grant Gustafson of Texas A&M probably had the most upside of any Long Snapper in attendance. He also can play tight end and he definitely looks the part. NFL frame right now and he can snap an NFL ball when he just lets it go.

Notables: Carson Tebbetts of StonyBrook, Chris Clore of the Colorado School of Mines, Wyman Baxley of South Carolina, Mike Curry of Penn State, Jackson Quiggle of NC State, Steven Wethli of Youngstown State, Aaron Blaylock of the Citadel and Kanyon Combs

Recap of the NC Camp (3/13)

12814074_969087929834004_1802732804974303182_nRubio Long Snapping traveled to NC on March 13th for their spring camp.

Long Snappers came out from NY, VA, GA, IL, SC, MA, OH, NJ, IL, WI, CT, PA, TN, MI & NC to learn from the best instruction and the most exposure possible for Long Snapping.

The overall winner of the camp was Noah Turner (NC, ’18)! Noah was on fire all day and deserved the win. Kid snaps with great power for his age and has form. Upside is off the charts for this Long Snapper from NC. He is very good for his age and just looks to keep getting better.

TOP 2016 LONG SNAPPERS:

Jack Quiggle

Jack Quiggle

Jack Quiggle was on his game and dominated in NC. VERY athletic Long Snapper that will transition well into the college game with added size. Very good attitude and upside.

  • Harrison Freeman is large and smooth with his snapping. Passes an eyeball test quickly and is really learning to snap with full power. Great attitude.
  • Wyman Baxley has unlimited potential. Incredible athlete that flies down the field.
  • Riley John is coming along nicely. Improving rapidly.
  • Jack Wellenhoffer is flat out just good and getting better.

Notables: Chandler Honeycutt, Charles McDonough and Austin Kliewer

TOP 2017 LONG SNAPPERS:

Mitch Hall

Mitch Hall

Mitch Hall is growing like a weed and snapping like a college Long Snapper. Form is impeccable and he rips it back to the punter. Great attitude and he is always improving.

  • Kyle O’Connor is VERY accurate and consistent. Ball is almost always in The Rubio Zone. Watch him VERY closely at XXVIII in May.
  • Marshall Coluzzi had a great day in NC. Incredible accurate and consistent Long Snapper. When he is his groove, he is dominant.
  • Kevin Crabtree is REALLY coming along nicely and could easily nab an EVENT ELITE spot at XXVIII in May.
  • Ryan Culbertson is smooth and very consistent. Really need to see him explode out of the gate instead of sliding into the snapping motion.
  • Kyle Davis was impressive in NC with his power and form.
  • Austin Reeves is a smooth Long Snapper with good upside. Consistency of speed and more snaps in The Rubio Zone is what I will be searching for at XXVIII in May.
  • Callen Davidson is smooth and consistent. Trusting his form to let the ball fly out of his hands will help a ton.
  • Ryan Schwind moves well and can be dominant.

Notables: Ryan Watkins, Jason Anderson, Logan Odum, Nick Low, Carson Tebbetts and Gunner Daniel

TOP 2018 LONG SNAPPERS:

Noah Turner

Noah Turner

Noah Turner was the best 2018 Long Snapper in attendance. Strong, powerful and uses his whole body really well. Upside is very good.

  • Maddie Golden came out and really impressed me. This kid is good and going to be great.
  • Kent Vines was on par all day with the top Long Snappers in NC. Always improving.
  • James Rosenberry is one of the most accurate and consistent Long Snappers in his class.
  • AJ Covan can find a groove and then it is over for the rest of his class. VERY accurate.

Notables: Max Durschlag, Matt Aloni

TOP 2019 LONG SNAPPERS:

Rhys Suter

Rhys Suter shows great poise, form and speed for his age. Dominant freshman in NC and the sky is the limit.

Long Snappers came out from GA, TN, KY, AL FL, SC, TX, MS & OH to learn from the best and get the most exposure possible for Long Snapping.

The overall winner of the camp, and new 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper, was Anthony Ratliff (GA, ’16)! Ratliff, who has recently been offered a preferred walk-on to Penn St., was on fire all day. He was snapping with incredible confidence and was dominant in the speed competition. Kid was handling pressure as well as anyone around. He is ready for college now!

TOP 2016 LONG SNAPPERS:

  • Jake Munoz

    Jake Munoz

Scott Meyer was outstanding all day in GA. The more he just lets the ball go, the better he is. Might be the smoothest Long Snappers in the country.

  • Jake Munoz continues to have some of the quickest hands I ever worked with at Rubio Long Snapping. Once he locks down his consistency, it is all over for the rest of his class.
  • Sean Somers is one of the toughest and hardest working Long Snappers in the country and it showed in GA. Kid has really improved.
  • Colton Piatt was snapping with solid confidence and showed very good accuracy.

Notables: Dan Patterson, Koby Pyrz, Wyman Baxley, Connor Caffrey and Jacob Holman

  • James Rosenberry is smooth as they come and always moving in the right direction. Uses his whole body very well.
  • John Raines showed me great things all day in GA.
  • Parker Lefton is big, strong and has great form. Like a machine when he is snapping the ball.
  • Dillon Hayes was hovering in the .7s all day and is one to keep an eye on at VEGAS XXVII.

Notables: Trey Corley, Camren Wood, Jacob Hall

TOP 2019 LONG SNAPPERS:

  • Luke Smith

    Luke Smith

Quentin “Mad Dog” Skinner left absolutely no doubt he is the best Long Snapper for the class of 2019 in the country. He already has the ability to snap in the .5s and already has a full scholarship offer. Form is impeccable and he has the strength of a college athlete. Consistency and crushing his opponents are the next step.

  • Luke Smith looks like a high school senior and can snap like one as well. Huge upside for this kid from GA.
  • JC Vega is a very smooth Long Snapper with wonderful form and he is really coachable.
  • Jude Pedrozo came down from OH and left no doubt the midwest will be good for Long Snappers in the coming years. Built well and snaps hard.

Notables: John Farris, Mason Napper
