What is your fondest memory of your time playing college football?
There are several but if I had to pick one it would be winning the Cotton Bowl in 2013. All the festivities that week made the entire experience feel special. This was also the season that we beat Alabama, Manziel won the Heisman and our inaugural SEC season. The Cotton Bowl victory served as the cherry on top to an amazing and memorable season.

If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snappers, what would it be? Snapping PARENTS, what would it be?
Snappers: The entire experience is a marathon, not a sprint. Take the time to build constructive habits for both your physical health and mental health. The transition to college and college football can be overwhelming and it can be easy to get distracted and lose track of what works. Continue to regularly work the drills you learned at camp to stay sharp and continue to improve. This might not be for everyone, but I also like to work in on scout team during practice when given the chance. I felt as though this helped me stay physical and athletic when I got some reps in at defensive end, kickoff, whatever it was.

Parents: Let your kid learn to self-motivate and make their own decisions. Although they will have a lot of eyes on them, nobody is going to babysit your snapper when they get to school. I’d say my own parents navigated this beautifully. When they noticed they were getting too involved they pulled back and allowed me to learn both the positive and negative consequences of my action or inaction.

When was the last time you snapped a ball and for what reason?
A year or two ago I snapped a few balls hanging at the park with a group of friends. The speed was still mostly there, the accuracy, not so much… It was also a wonderful reminder that I need to stretch more.

If you could go back and play football in college again, would you go to the same school or a different one? Why?
I would go to the same school again. Texas A&M is such a special school and College Station such a special place. The people, community, atmosphere and program were just a step above what I experienced elsewhere. I wanted the big school experience, and I got exactly that. Although I did end up transferring, I wouldn’t hesitate to do it all over again. I will always cherish my memories of my experience there.

Any regrets during college? Anything you wish you had done or hadn’t done?
Today I can confidently say I don’t have any regrets but if you had asked me back then I would have had about a million. I was a bit of a wild child and that came with its consequences. Although I wouldn’t change the way things went, I wish that I had been more present in the moment, had more gratitude for my opportunities and asked for help when I needed it. However, my many, many mistakes made me who I am today and for that I’m grateful.

What tremendous thing have you been a part of or experienced since you graduated?
At the beginning of this year my wife and I were able to purchase our dream home and are almost done with some pretty extensive DIY renovations. It’s been a fun, stressful and exciting experience that we’ve worked towards for a long time!
