Something Special for the NY Long Snappers

It turns out that SoloShot will on hand at the Rubio Long Snapping NY camp this Sunday, September 14th!

SoloShot was on hand at the Rubio Long Snapping Season Prep Camp in CA in late July and was very impressive. Basically, the subject (whomever you want to film) wears a “tag” and the SoloShot follows that person, non-stop, for as long as you want. It is kind of creepy, but in a good way.

You use any video camera you want, you set it up on top of the SoloShot which is on a tripod. Boom. Done. A parent or coach can now actually see real life instead of always behind a small viewing screen.

Before you email me, yes, SoloShot will be on hand for a couple other Rubio Long Snapping camps this fall and definitely at VEGAS XXV!

No Matter Where You Are, Someone Gave You A Boost

Here is an article that I wrote for my local newspaper, The Lewiston Tribune, that I thought you would enjoy….

If you’re reading this, thank someone. I don’t care if it is a higher power, your parents, your kids, your neighbor or even the person you got the paper from, thank someone.

They deserve to hear it and you need to say it. Think about it: Without others, you are nothing. I don’t care how great an athlete, businessperson or student you think you are, you did not get there on your own.

You had help along the way. Everyone does.

A world-class Olympian sprinter doesn’t come out sprinting. They fall, they crawl, they walk, they jog and then they run. There are steps and there are always people assisting along the way.

A top-tier business owner didn’t get to the top on their own. I don’t care if you invented the perfect “widget,” you had help along the way. From someone teaching you to read, to someone showing you how to write, to the manufacturing of the “widget,” you had help. No one does anything completely on their own.

Those people who are assisting you have been there and they have done that. Usually, of course not always, people don’t just talk to talk. They talk for a purpose. They talk to be heard. They want to help.

You have been helped. You need to thank someone.

Then, after you thank that person or persons, you need to ask for more advice and really listen. The next step is key: Make a plan and don’t stop until you get there.

It doesn’t matter how tough the first part of your plan will be – never stop. Champions don’t stop until they get to the championship. That is why they are champions.

The great ones have taken advice from many along the way, they have implemented the advice, they made their plan and they did not stop until they reached their goal.

Everything is hard when you first start. Suck it up. Get over it. Learn from it. Move on and then dominate it.

If being a champion, in anything, was easy … everyone would do it.

So, I get a call from a random number and….

So, I get a call from a random number and I answer the phone. Here is how the conversation goes….

“Hello, this is Chris Rubio”

“RUBIO! This is Coach ______ from ______ University. I am not doing well. I just found out that my starter is ineligible and I need someone right now to come in and start. NOW. I have scholarship money and everything. Who do you got?”

“I will take care of this coach. I will text you a list of kids and their cell numbers for you to contact. Consider this done. I will make sure you get a Rubio Long Snapper”

“THANK YOU RUBIO!”

Couple teaching points here….

  1. This happens more often than you think.
  2. Parents, this is why I need your kids cell phone numbers. It is not for my own pleasure, it is for when a coach needs to contact a kid immediately. Bottom line, if I don’t have your cell number, you should be texting it to me right now (my info is on the website)
  3. How did the starter not pass his class? Come on! Like I always say, if you are not passing your classes in college, with the help of all the tutors, you are literally trying not to pass. Focus up.
  4. Sadly, I have many kids that will not be able to take this starting spot since they didn’t take the proper classes in HS, are not a qualifier with the NCAA and/or simply cannot leave JC early without completing their AA degree.
  5. Take care of your academics first. NO ONE CARES HOW FAST YOU SNAP IF YOU CAN’T SPELL SNAP!
  6. It is never too late. This is proof.

Rubio Long Snapper Jake Guidry Put on Scholarship

Rubio Long Snapper Jake Guidry of Louisiana-Lafayette has been put on full scholarship!

Fun fact: along with being the punt snapper, Guidry is also the starting HOLDER! That is definitely a first for Rubio Long Snapping.

Rubio Long Snapper Kevin Keane Put on Scholarship

Rubio Long Snapper Kevin Keane has been put on scholarship at Boise St.

He is taking over for Rubio Long Snapper Chris Roberson who graduated. Keane started all games last year for the Broncos and has beat out Rubio Long Snapper Matt Cota for the starting job this year.

Congratulations to Keane and his family!

Rubio Long Snappers Fighting for Starting Job at Michigan

According to this article, it looks as though the Michigan Wolverines have a battle for the starting Long Snapper position between, yup, you guessed it, two Rubio Long Snappers.

The two Rubio Long Snappers: Scott Sypniewski and Andrew Robinson. Both are obviously great Long Snappers and the competition should be tight. I wish them both the best of luck and I know that the Wolverines will have a great one no matter who they go with.

One must wonder, is this simply the wave of the future? A college coach simply choosing which Rubio Long Snapper to go with as the starter….

Happy Ranksgiving to the Long Snappers from the IL Summer Camp

The rankings are completed for ALL  Long Snappers that participated in the Rubio Long Snapping Summer Camp in IL.

KEY POINTS:

  • My rankings are NOT done just from The Rubio Target
  • My rankings are NOT done from some mathematical formula.
  • My rankings ARE done by me and only me. That is why I am at all my camps.
  • My rankings are based off of this blog I wrote about what makes a Long Snapper great.

  • All Long Snappers are ranked after their first fall camp of their freshman year in high school.

Contest for a FREE VEGAS XXV!

Long Snappers are obviously incredible athletes built with dashing good looks, but are they also creative and intelligent?Obvious answer is YES, but let’s see what we are dealing with throughout the world.

Every year, I try to have a contest to give away a FREE admission to my Vegas Event. This year will be no different.

And, since I know my Long Snappers can tend to be a bit apprehensive about doing any extra work, I have created a contest with the least amount of work in the history of Rubio Long Snapping.

RUBIO LONG SNAPPING HAIKU CONTEST

WHO: Any Long Snapper ranging from 8th grade to second year of JC that would like a chance to earn a FREE admission to VEGAS XXV!

WHAT: You must create an original Haiku (s) that pertains to Long Snapping. For those of that don’t know, a Haiku is simply a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five. If you don’t know what a poem or a syllable is, bless your heart and start focusing more in school for the love all that is holy.

Two examples of haikus would be…

Determination
Can make the impossible
Possible for all

 

A full day of fun
Lots of eating and resting
Football on the tube

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Be funny, be creative, don’t be bland. Stand out. Have fun with this “assignment”
  • You can enter ONLY one time, but can have a total of three haikus
  • Each haiku must be on the same page and must be hand-printed by the Long Snapper (if I can’t read it, it won’t get read). If you have one haiku, you will have just one page for me. If you have two haikus, you will have only one page for me. If you have three haikus, you will have only one page for me.
  • I will not accept faxed, emailed, scanned, texted or typed haikus
