Rubio Long Snappers in The National Championship Game!

It seems that every single year, there is a Rubio Long Snapper in The National Championship game and this year BOTH teams will have one!

To make it even more interesting, both will have a former #1 Rubio Long Snapper.

Bryce Haynes, The Ohio State Long Snapper, was my #1 for the class of 2011. He has been extremely dominant throughout his career at Ohio St. with his academics and athletics.

Tanner Carew, The Oregon Ducks Long Snapper, was my #1 for the class of 2014. He has started as a true freshman and already recorded several tackles. He was also an Army All-American last year.

Also on the Oregon Ducks, you will find Rubio Long Snappers Devin Melendez and Connor Johnson.

You know me, I am pulling for a tie game with a lot of punt snaps but I am betting that won’t be the case. I guess I will have to settle for several pat and field goal snaps.

Congratulations to these fine young men and their respective teams. May the best team win!

Creating My Own Highlight Tape, Good Idea or Bad?

We are asked this question all the time:

Should I make my own Highlight Tape or have a professional do it?

If you look at investment of having a professional do it the right way vs. the potential awareness it will drive to you as a potential College Long Snapper the answer is pretty clear. Have a pro do it for you!

A Highlight tape in most cases is the one shot you have to impress a college coach in just a few short seconds. It is essential that it is done professionally and clearly defines you and your skill set. When choosing a Film maker consult with Rubio Long Snapping prior as we know what makes the perfect Long Snapping Highlight Tape.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when developing a Highlight Tape:

Put your Best Clips at the beginning of the Tape, in some cases you only have a few seconds to catch the attention of college scouts.
Make sure you include a small bio, contact info, jersey colors, your number, GPA, SAT Score, etc.
Follow up, be persistent make sure the coaches received your tape and that they viewed it.
Leverage your online presence by showcasing the Video across all your Social Media Sites, Youtube Channels, Scouting Website Profiles, etc. you never know who will see it.

Can I Change my Mind after a Verbal Commitment?

The high school football recruiting process can be a lengthy one, and you may be thrilled to finally receive an offer to play at one of your top choice schools. It’s common to feel pressured to respond to offers quickly, and in many cases, you’ll do this by making a verbal commitment. This is when you tell the recruiter or coach that you are planning to play at their school. However, this verbal commitment is not a binding one. The only binding commitment is signing a written contract.

There are some cases when you may want to change your decision after making a verbal commitment. Maybe your dream school came back with a surprise offer that you would rather accept. Or perhaps the scholarship you thought you were getting from the school you made a verbal commitment to wasn’t as generous as you first thought. After making your verbal commitment, it’s important to do your research and make sure this is the school you actually want to go to. If you decide otherwise, politely let the school know you have changed your mind and will be pursuing other options next year.

New College Camp Announced!

Rubio Long Snapping and Chris Sailer Kicking will be running the University of Washington’s Specialist Camp on June 17, 2013 in Seattle, WA.

The Huskies will be the 6th college camp we will be running across the country. Others that we will be running are LSU (June 1 and July 13), Texas A&M (June 6th), Alabama (June 8th), UCLA (June 10th) and Oregon (June 15th).

As with all college camps that we are running, you will need to register for it on their website and not ours.

A 2013 graduate of Neville High School in Monroe, Louisiana, Trey Lamastus is a consistently accurate Long Snapper, and winner of the Nike Spring long snapping camp in Texas in March 2012. Lamastus is committed to the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

A 2013 graduate of Pickerington Central High School in Pickerington, Ohio, Nick Walter has played as starting Long Snapper since his sophomore year and starting center since his junior year. Walter is committed to Miami University of Ohio.

A 2013 graduate of Whitewater High School in Fayetteville, Georgia, Trevor Morgan is an all-around athlete. Along with serving as starting varsity Long Snapper, Morgan is a 1st string wide receiver and backup quarterback. He is committed to the University of Memphis.

Cole Mazza Takes Title at 11th Annual Rubio Long Snapping National Event

Rubio Long Snappers have departed from the 11^th Annual National Event in Las Vegas and to say the event was a success is the understatement of the world. Long Snappers from all over the country and even the world participated in the two-day event on January 19^th and 20^th at Faith Lutheran High School.

The Long Snappers competed in various skill competitions and were ultimately narrowed down to 12 finalists. The finalists competed in one last skill competition using a specific finals round target to crown the champion.

That Champion was Alabama commit Cole Mazza. The 6-1 240 pound Mazza is from Liberty High School in Bakersfield. Mazza was offered by many D1 schools including UCLA, Utah and Washington State and will be a key component to the National Champion Crimson Tide in the coming years.
