Recap Article of the CA Fall Camp (10/18/15)

CA
Rubio Long Snapping traveled to CA on October 18th for their fall camp. The camp had perfect weather and the talent was off the charts. CA is quickly becoming the hotbed of Long Snapping talent from top to bottom.

Long Snappers came out from CA, NV, AZ, CO & TX to learn from the best and get the most exposure possible for Long Snapping.

The overall winner of the camp, and new 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper, was Conner Kirkegaard (CA, ’16)! Kirkegaard, who has recently committed to Air Force, was outstanding all day in CA. He was snapping with a great deal of confidence (as he should be) and just letting the ball rip back to the punter. I was very impressed with Kirkegaard and Air Force will be as well!

TOP 2016 LONG SNAPPERS:

  • Damon Johnson

    Damon Johnson

Jake Cesear, who has recently committed to Wisconsin on full scholarship, left no doubt he is one of the top Long Snappers in the country. Incredibly athletic and has the most upside of anyone in his class.

  • Damon Johnson, who has recently committed to West Virginia on full scholarship, was snapping smooth, crisp balls all day long. Speed is very strong and so is his attitude. His turn to win a big one.
  • John Aloma throws absolute heat back to the punter. VERY catchable ball and, EASILY, one of the best attitudes in the country. He will make a college coach very happy next year.
  • Koby Walsh continues to impress me with his drive and work ethic. Very smooth Long Snapper that will dominate when ALL of his snaps are full power.
  • Riley Shackelford can pass an eyeball test quickly and throw some severe heat back to the punter when it all clicks. Great attitude.
  • Matt O’Donoghue is thick, strong and snaps a great ball. This sleeper might no longer be sleeping.
  • Jacob Mimoun has improved as much as anyone over the past couple of years. Built very long and starting to really snap with confidence.
  • Jack Brennan has come out of nowhere and is very much in the conversation as one of the top Long Snappers in his class. Very athletic and always improving.

Notables: Kody Allen, Max Burcher, Patt Coughlin, Biago Capp, Grant Crum, Ryan DeLucia, Blake Gifford, Curtis Hernandez

TOP 2017 LONG SNAPPERS:

  • Noah Rodriguez-Trammel

    Noah Rodriguez-Trammel

Kyle Gibbs was simply a force to be reckoned with in CA. He can pass an eyeball test quickly and snaps fire back to the punter. Love to see him focus on consistency and flat out knowing he will dominate. Watch this kid at VEGAS XXVII.

  • Noah Rodriguez-Trammell has an incredible amount of upside and is great….NOW! He can pass an eyeball test from 100 yards away. Ball is quick and fast. He is VERY good.
  • Devin Noth has a frame that will be able to put on some good weight over the next couple of years. Great attitude on this Long Snapper with a nice, smooth ball.
  • Peter Snodgrass has great form and is coming along nicely. Always, and I mean always, improving.
  • Andrew Toothman has come A LONG way with his snapping and was very impressive in CA. Form is impeccable and he is doing a great job of using his whole body.

Notables: Koltin Anderson, Mark Casillas, Drake Maningo, Alex Michaelsen, Nick Rovetti

TOP 2018 LONG SNAPPERS:

  • Kyle Petrucci

    Kyle Petrucci

James Townsend was dominant all day and proved he was the best 2018 Long Snapper in attendance. EXTREMELY athletic. Might be able to play two positions in college.

  • Kyle Petrucci is a mountain of a man with great form and potential. Needs to learn to trust his form and really let the ball fly out of his hands at all times. Incredible upside.
  • Brendan Bentley is a very smooth Long Snapper that is always improving. Kid is a workhorse and continues to impress me.
  • Andrew Domingo, pound of pound, was one of the best Long Snappers in CA. Of course, he needs to gain some pounds, but man can this kid snap the ball. Very impressive to watch him use ALL of  his body.
  • Matt Garcia has tremendous form and is the silent assassin of his class. Confidence will be key as we move forward.

Notables: Charles De Rosier, Matt Tokos

TOP 2019 LONG SNAPPERS:

  • Simon Samarzich, who has been with Rubio Long Snapping for quite some time, did really well in CA. Impeccable form and good size give him a massive leg up against the competition in CA. Good attitude and he can snap the ball in the .7s. Should be a great weekend for him at VEGAS XXVII.
  • Nathan Weneta

    Nathan Weneta

Nathan Weneta has improved drastically over the past couple of years and is a legit contender for the top Long Snapper for the class of 2019 Long Snappers. Good frame, wonderful form and an incredible attitude make him one to watch over the next couple of years.

  • Jesse Vasquez showed me excellent form and coachability all day long in CA. Great Long Snapper already. Strength and confidence will be huge as we progress into VEGAS XXVII.

Notables: Reed Simons, Keelan O’Riordan, Owen Larson

FBU TOP GUN RECAP

Over 60 Long Snappers came out to the FBU TOP GUN camp in Ohio to compete against each other for spots to the FBU 7th & 8th All-Star games along with the granddaddy of them all, the US ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL in San Antonio, TX.

TOP GUN 2015

On the first day, the two best Long Snappers in attendance, John Shannon (’16, IL) and Johnny Den Bleyker (’16, CA) were chosen to battle for the first All-American spot. They went head to head on The Rubio Target to see who would be the first to five. These two didn’t disappoint with both scoring on each snap. Eventually, John Shannon couldn’t be beat and earned the first All-American spot.

Jacob Zuhr FBU

Jacob Zuhr with Erik Richards of the Army All-American Bowl

For the youth, four 2020 Long Snappers were chosen to battle. Kameron Hawkins (CA), Jacob Zuhr (FL), Jackson Worthen (KY and Zane McCracken (GA) competed for one spot for the FBU All-Star game. The snaps were crisp and all did very well but the best of the best on this day was Jacob Zuhr and he was selected to be an FBU All-Star!

On day two of the FBU TOP GUN camp, the Long Snappers were taken through several competitions involving speed, accuracy and athleticism. After two days of charting, the top four 2016 Long Snappers were Jake Cesear (CA), Geron Eatherly (TX), Ben Wyatt (NC) and Johnny Den Bleyker (CA). Geron Eatherly battled Ben Wyatt to start off the finals and both did very well but Eatherly proved to be too much for Wyatt.

Next up was Jake Cesear against Johnny Den Bleyker. Both started slow but then it heated up quickly with Den Bleyker coming out on top. Snaps were crisp and on target for both Long Snappers.

Army All-Americans 2015

Army All-Americans Johnny Den Bleyker and John Shannon

The finals was Eatherly vs Den Bleyker. One of these two would be the final US ARMY ALL-AMERICAN Long Snapper. These two Long Snappers did not disappoint with both averaging in the low .7s with the ball being right on target. In the end, Den Bleyker proved his dominance and earned the spot.

For the 2020 Long Snappers, the final four to compete for the last spot were Kameron Hawkins (CA), Zane McCracken (GA), Michael Bastuga (IN) and Jackson Worthen (KY). It came down to Hawkins vs Worthen in the finals with Worthen being nails and earning the spot. I was VERY impressed with this group of incoming 8th graders. The future is bright with Rubio Long Snapping! (You should see the form on these kids!)

Congratulations to all of the Long Snappers in attendance and I wanted to give a couple shootouts to some of the guys that really stood out in my eyes….

Jackson Worthen FBU

2016: Jake Munoz, Harrison Freeman, Jackson Quiggle, Riley Shackelford and Phillip Thomas

2017: Ryan Culbertson, Paul Lawless, Matthew Smith

2018: Jarrett Key

2019: Quentin Skinner and Rhys Suter

Rubio Long Snapping will be partnered with FBU again in 2016 with new locations being posted within a couple months and camps starting in March. See you soon.

Article & Rankings from the Rubio Long Snapping Spring Camp in CA

The rankings are completed for ALL Long Snappers that participated in the Rubio Long Snapping Spring Camp in CA!

Long Snappers came out from CA, NV, AZ, WY, WA, UT and CO to get the best instruction and most exposure for Long Snappers in the country.

Next ranking opportunity will be at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in TX on March 15th.

Hoffman, Harrison

Harrison Hoffman

The overall winner of the camp was Harrison Hoffman. Harrison is headed to the Air Force Academy and will do great there. He is a smooth Long Snapper with a frame that will easily be able to pack on the pounds in the coming years. Great kid and always learning

TOP 2015 LONG SNAPPERS

  • Jordan Ober snaps so the ball is crisp, tight and moves quickly back to the punter. I would love to see him lower his butt just a tad to get even more speed on the ball. That’s a very simple fix that can be adjusted in less than a week. I also love his attitude.
  • Cody Block is one of the most athletic Long Snappers in his class. He moves very well on his feet, no matter what he is doing. His hands are extremely quick. He gets the ball out of the gate as well as anyone else in the country. I would love to see him focus on getting fully set and making sure he is going back instead of just straight up. This will increase the speed of the ball and keep him in the low .7s to even .6s over the course of a day.
  • Jonathan Goldstein is built long and his form has really progressed over the years. He has a frame that can put up some very good weight over the next year. Goldstein uses his whole body really well and he can snap the ball in the .6s at times on punts. He needs to make sure his consistency with that speed is locked down and that he is getting the same release point with all of his snaps. This kid can really snap. Watch him.
  • Peter Comaroto‘s form is excellent and he is always improving. Getting his footwork down and continuing to build his body will help in the long run. It is fun to watch this kid snap. UMASS is lucky to have him in the fall.
  • Richard Wilcox is fantastic when loose. The less thinking he does, the better he is. I love when he drives his elbows and creates some good whip and speed on the ball. He is built thick so he will have to really make sure he stays loose and doesn’t become too bulky which will slow the ball down. He has a great attitude.
  • Matt Foley is snapping the ball with confidence and is sure of himself. He looked good. I REALLY just need to see him focus on one snap and let it fly out of his hands full speed. Once he does that, I want it EVERY SINGLE TIME. He is as close as possible to a 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper. This kid is good.

Notables: Scott Stevens, Jack Dixon, JT Bale

TOP 2016 LONG SNAPPERS

  • Johnny Den Bleyker was smooth, strong and fast. Den Bleyker has it all right now. The bigger he gets, the better he will be. Love when he gets fully set. Very dominant at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. UCLA got a good one.
  • Damon Johnson had a great day at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. Gets in a groove and is very dominant. His misses are becoming less and less frequent. Big thing for him is to just snap the ball as hard as he can at all times. Kid is flat out good and he will make a college coach very happy in the next couple of years.
  • Conner Kirkegaard had a much better day at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. When he lets the ball just fly out of his hands, he is exceptional. Controlling his release point will be huge for him gaining accuracy. Speed is right on target. WORK HORSE.
  • Koby Walsh had another great day at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. He is right in the mix with all of the great ones in his class. Now, he needs to lock down the consistency and take it to the next level. Show me he can win a camp and separate himself from those above him. Moves really well on his feet. Body is coming along nicely. I will be testing his blocking and movement a ton at VEGAS XXVI.
  • Jake Cesear – Simple: he gets to about 210 lbs and he will have a scholarship. Reminds me a lot of Rubio Long Snappers Aaron Brewer (Denver Broncos) and Chase Dominguez (Utah). TONS of upside. Kid is almost ready for a scholarship now. SMOOOOOOOOTH.
  • James Workman had another big jump in the rankings and well deserved. Workman is really locking down his consistency and is headed towards one of the greats in his class. The harder he snaps, the better he will be. Lowering his butt will help a bit to gain more speed and power. Kid is filled with potential. Watch him closely at VEGAS XXVI. EVENT ELITE?
  • Donald Reiter is coming along nicely and had a good day at the Rubio Long Snapping camp in CA. Needs to really focus on being as quick as possible going back instead of gradually going up. Very good attitude.

Notables: Jack Haney, Curtis Hernandez, Jacob Mimoun,  Jack Munsey, Andrew Tomlinson, Jared Enrico, Blake Gifford, Fletcher Dilley

TOP 2017 LONG SNAPPERS

  • Thomas Fletcher is just flat out good. Really good. If I was a college coach, I would be looking at this kid VERY, VERY closely right now. The bigger he gets, the better he will be. Just trust me on this, watch him. It would not surprise me to see him win VEGAS XXVI.
  • Koltin Anderson did really well at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. He is snapping the ball with confidence and good power. Like to see him continue to work on eliminating the hitch while still snapping full power. Strong bodied. Great attitude.
  • Alex Michaelsen is snapping the ball with good power and strength. Needs to make sure he is not over-gripping the ball so he keeps his spiral on lock down. Keeping his back flat will help with overall speed and power. VERY good potential and definitely one to watch.
  • Devin Noth of Colorado did well. Plain and simple, the bigger Noth gets, the better he will be. Kid has very good form and is snapping the ball well. He is snapping the ball with very good power and accuracy. Kid is flat out good. Keep a very close eye on him over the next two years and beyond.

Notables: Joey Tanaka, Noah Rodriguez-Trammell, Caleb Laver

TOP 2018 LONG SNAPPERS & FUTURE STARS

  • Ross Reiter left no doubt he was the best in his class and it wasn’t even close. Kid is strong, has a great attitude and snaps with power.
  • Brendan Bentley showed QUICK improvement in a very short amount of time. Body is strong and his form is good. Loved what I saw at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. Snaps the ball with good power. Like to see him sit down a bit more and make sure he is leaning back. VERY good potential and you should really keep a close eye on him.
  • Simon Samarzich continues to just plug along and dominate his age group in CA. VEGAS XXVI will be big to prove he is dominant at the national level. Wouldn’t put money against him showing up and snapping bullets.

Happy Ranksgiving to the Class of 2016 Long Snappers

VEGAS XXV FinalsThe rankings are completed for ALL 2016 Long Snappers that participated in the Rubio Long Snapping National Event: VEGAS XXV!

Approximately 300 Long Snappers came in from nearly every state in the country and even Canada to learn from the best and get the most exposure possible for Long Snappers. This was what you call a true national event to see how you really compare against the best in the world. As I stated before, there is nothing like Vegas and this one definitely did not disappoint. Testimonials are coming in non-stop regarding the weekend.  With the addition of an agility and tackling station, athleticism really played a role in the rankings.

Next ranking opportunity will be at any Rubio Long Snapping spring and summer camp.

This group was simply amazing with the level of talent they brought out to the field on both days. I could make this post 20 pages long talking about each and every one of them. Here are the best of the best….

  • John Shannon:  This kid snaps with as much power as anyone I have ever worked with in over a decade.  The ball explodes out his hands towards the punter.  He uses his whole, strong, body really well.  Athletically, he moves with purpose and runs very hard.  His lateral movement is excellent.  I would like to see him control his body a bit more by VEGAS XXVI.  He is ready NOW for the next level.
  • Johnny Den Bleyker: Den Bleyker is EXTREMELY athletic and just destroyed the agility and tackling station at VEGAS XXV.  He moved flawlessly and made it look effortless.  Not only is he a great Long Snapper, but a true athlete as well.  Den Bleyker has very quick hands when he is snapping.  The ball flies out of the gate and is almost hard to time.  He has a great attitude and work ethic.  He is always improving. He is ready now for the next level.
  • Jake Cesear:  He is built EXTREMELY long and is, easily, one of the top athletes in his class.  Cesear has a frame that will be able to put on another 40 pounds in the next couple of years.  That will definitely make a difference on punt coverage. His starting form is very good and he is using his whole body really well. He needs to make sure he is keeping his weight back so he doesn’t fall forward and is able to block more efficiently.  There is TON of upside on this kid.
  • Ben Wyatt:  It was easy to choose Wyatt to be a member of the TOP 12.  Athletically, he ran very well and had a nice release.  He moved with purposed and was full of aggression.  He has very good control of his body.  Wyatt is a true student of Long Snapping and is always improving. He has made incredible advances in a very short amount of time. This kid has some severe raw power and tries to hurt the punter.  I love it.  Watch this kid.
  • Geron Eatherly:  Eatherly is definitely coming into his own and making a name for himself as one of the best Long Snappers in the country in his class.  His form is excellent and he uses all of his body.  I want to see him snapping as hard as possible each time, making sure he is fully reaching back on his follow through, and that he remembers to keep his balance back.  He has really easy fixes that I would expect are completed by VEGAS XXVI.  Athletically, Eatherly needs to be able to control his body a bit more when moving forward and laterally. He runs very hard.  I would like to see him have lighter feet over the bags.  He is headed towards greatness…quickly.
  • Koby Walsh:  He snaps with an incredible amount of confidence.  He is a Long Snapper that ALWAYS expects to win and I love it.  Athletically, he runs hard and with a purpose.  Walsh blocked well, had a good release, and a solid tackle.  The more he drives his elbows and just lets the ball fly, the better he will be.  He ALWAYS improves for me. He will make a college coach very happy in the near future.
  • Damon Johnson:  Athletically, he was, EASILY, one of the top Long Snappers throughout the weekend.  He runs really well.  He was fast, agile, and moved effortlessly through the agility and tackling station.  Johnson is definitely going to be a factor on punt coverage.  His form is excellent and the more he trusts it, the better he will be in the long run.  He can easily snap in the .7s and can get in the .6s IF he snaps as physically as hard as possible.  Getting his head up quickly after he snaps and making sure his spiral is completely locked down is going to be key in moving up.  You should keep a close eye on him as we finish off his junior year.
  • Charles McDonough:  Another solid jump in the rankings by McDonough after his performance at VEGAS XXV.  His form is looking very good and he is snapping with good power.  Locking down his spiral is going to be key for him.  He is rapidly moving up the rankings and could take the top spot by the summer time.  Athletically, he moves really well and showed great agility throughout the weekend. Keep a very close eye on him.
  • Logan Klusman:  Klusman really came on the scene and did very well at VEGAS XXV. He is an EXTREMELY smooth Long Snapper that snaps a very catchable ball.  The ball is tight and really quick.  Making sure he is fully following through will help a ton with his accuracy.  I want to see him throw his fingers all the way back and not just flicking them to the punter.  He won’t miss at that point.  Athletically, he runs hard with good lateral movement. He needs to get a bit more control of his body.  This kid should be a 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper by VEGAS XXVI or the TOP 12 camp. Watch him.
  • John Aloma:  The kid snaps the ball as if he is trying to put a hole in the punter.  The ball is beyond fast. His snaps are smooth and very accurate.  Aloma is a true student of the position. I would love to see him KNOW how good he is and never snap without confidence…ever. His release point is huge for him and when he adjusts it, it is the only time he even misses his target.  Athletically, Aloma snapped, blocked, and released very well.  Being smooth and not heavy while going forward and laterally will be huge for him getting to the next level.  If he can lock down his athleticism, he is an EASY 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper.
  • Connor Kirkegaard:  When he was on, he was REALLY on.  By VEGAS XXVI, I want it to be one constant weekend of domination.  Snapping full speed and with max power will be crucial in getting him to be a 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper.  This kid can EASILY do it and needs to know he can do it. Giving his full effort with all snaps will be key.  Athletically, he runs very hard and accelerates well.  He needs to make sure he is in full control of his body at all times.  The ball is in his court and he will be as GREAT as he chooses to be.
  • Erik Dickerson:  He did exceptionally well at the agility and tackling station showing that he is a true athlete.  His movements were very smooth and fluid.  I have no doubt he will be a presence on punt coverage.  His snapping is very solid with good accuracy and speed.  He is able to hit in the .7s and has a good spiral.  Dickerson needs to make sure he is focused on getting his strong lower half fully involved to create more power on his punt snaps.  To increase his accuracy, I would love to see him make sure he gets his eyes all the way through and not pausing them towards the middle of the snap. There is TONS of potential and upside on Dickerson.
  • Scott Meyer:  Meyer is a very smooth Long Snapper with tons of upside.  When he is relaxed and just letting the ball fly, there is no one better in the country.  Athletically, he blocked well but needs to work on his agility.  Moving forward and laterally should be pretty darn flawless.  Aggression with his running and snapping will be key as well as he moves towards the next level. I would like to see him make sure he doesn’t pop out his feet when he is snapping so he doesn’t lose any power.  Snapping with his full power will be big for him.  Keep an eye on him.
  • Anthony Ratliff:  Ratliff had a great weekend at VEGAS XXV and is certainly in the lead for EVENT ELITE at VEGAS XXVI.  He is snapping with some very good power on his punts. He snaps with anger and I like it.  I would love to see him continue to work on the speed of his hands out of the gate. Quickness and no catchable hitch will be key in rising in the rankings.  Release point with his fingers will be a big help with his accuracy.  Athletically, he moved with good agility and speed. Ratliff needs to make sure he remains smooth and doesn’t look awkward when moving forward and laterally.  Trust me, keep a very close eye on this Long Snapper.

Notables: Donald Reiter, Trent Kramer, Jake Munoz, Gus Karres, Jack Quiggle, Josh Brady, Blevyns Jumper, Jon Letter, & Colton Piatt.

KEY POINTS:

  • My rankings are NOT done just from The Rubio Target
  • My rankings are NOT done from some mathematical formula.
  • My rankings ARE done by me and only me. That is why they take a good amount of time. (Think of it this way, it takes MONTHS to build a Rolls Royce but only hours to build an average car)
  • My rankings are based off of this blog I wrote about what makes a Long Snapper great.
  • If you would like anything added to your profile page, simply email me (Rubio@RubioLongSnapping.com) the information and consider it done.
