The Top 10 Overall Long Snappers in the Country

Here is your list of the TOP 10 Long Snappers for the class of 2017….

1. Thomas Fletcher – Committed to Alabama on full scholarship!
OFFER HIM YESTERDAY!!! COMPLETELY DOMINATED at the TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp at the IMG Academy in FL and it wasn’t even close. His form is flawless, his hands are quick and he is getting bigger. No one is even close to him right now and he is, easily, the best Long Snapper in the country. You could put him in a competition with any other high school, and a heavy majority of college kids, and Fletcher would win. Just start the competition and walk away as the winner will be decided for you as soon as Fletcher touches the ball. I will say it again, Fletcher is THE BEST LONG SNAPPER IN THE COUNTRY AND IT IS NOT EVEN CLOSE

2. Mitch Hall, Scholarship offers to Memphis and Louisville, preferred walk-on to Florida State!
OFFER HIM NOW!!! Mitch did really well at the FBU TOP GUN camp and at the TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp at the IMG Academy in FL. He is still growing like a weed and has a frame that will hold at least another forty lbs in college. Ball is smooth, very accurate and he handles pressure like a champ. Snaps are fast and will be even quicker when he doesn’t ease into the snapping motion. Being a little quicker out of the gate will really get the ball flying out of his hands and make him pop in front of the recruiters. Memphis offered a great one in Mitch. EXCELLENT ATTITUDE.

3. Kyle Gibbs, Committed to the Naval Academy!
OFFER HIM NOW!!! Gibbs had VERY good showings at the FBU TOP GUN camp and at the Rubio Long Snapping TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp at the IMG Academy in FL in July, 2016. Body is solid and he can rip the ball back to the punter. Missed being an Army All-American by about a 1/4 of an inch at best. Moves well on his feet and is really finding his groove out on the field. The more he can dominate pressure situations and not overgrip or oversnap the ball, the better he will be. Definitely headed in the right direction when he is snapping the ball and looks to only get better over the next year as he moves towards the college level.

4. Kasey Kelleher, Offers to Bowling Green and Toledo!
Kelleher did really well at the TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp at the IMG Academy in FL. Strong Long Snapper that can move well on his feet. Ball is powerful and really explodes back to the punter. He can catch a groove and really dominate a camp and all the Long Snappers around him. Locking down his accuracy and consistency will be key as his speed is already at the D1 level. Love his attitude and he has very good upside.

5. Devin Noth
Noth showed me some great things at the TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp at the IMG Academy in FL. VERY athletic Long Snapper that will definitely be a factor heading downfield on punts. Punt returns will have to keep an eye on him at all times he is on the field. Ball is crisp and his hands are quick. Once his butt gets down just a tad more and his back becomes parallel to the ground, he will move even farther up the rankings as he will greatly increase his speed and accuracy.

6. Noah Rodriguez-Trammell, Offer to Colorado State!
Noah had a solid couple days at the TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp at the IMG Academy in FL. He can pass an eyeball test quickly and moves pretty darn well on his feet for a man of his size. Extremely smooth PATs and his punts are like a machine…same snap every single time. Love to see him make his hands just a tad quicker and have no wasted movement at the start of the snap. VERY close to being a 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper. He is the type of Long Snapper that can just get better and better throughout college….definitely has not hit his peak yet and he is already excellent.

7. Joe Calcagno, Committed to Penn State!
Calcagno had a great couple days FBU TOP GUN Camp and at the TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp at the IMG Academy in FL. Body is thick and he is as strong as a bull. Kid has power throughout and uses it well when he is snapping. Love to see him use all of that massive power with each and every snap. If he can snap at full speed every time AND get his eyes through with each snap, he could win XXIX…easily. Once he fully focuses on Long Snapping and doesn’t have to be 260 to play lineman, he will just improve even more. Great attitude that coaches will love. He will be a leader in the locker room and on the field. Penn St. got a good one in Calcagno.

8. Jacob Potter
Potter did really well at the TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp at the IMG Academy in FL. He is a thick, strong Long Snapper with great power in his snap. Body is tough. Moving better on his feet and starting to be a factor heading downfield. Ball is smooth and catchable. Like to see him continue to get his butt down a bit more to get more of his massive lower half involved which will give him more speed. Also, driving his elbows will help with speed as well. Kid has come a long way and just continues to improve.

9. Raymond Freeman, Committed to Air Force!
Freeman did extremely well at the Rubio Long Snapping summer camp in GA on July 12, 2016. He is an athletic Long Snapper that is a true factor on punt coverage. Ball is VERY fast and can punish the punter. Air Force definitely got a player in Freeman. His hands are like rockets and the ball will jump back to the punter. When Freeman just snaps with confidence and lets the ball fly, he is absolutely incredible. Locking down the spiral will move him even farther up. I would be shocked to not see him as a 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper at XXIX in January.

10. Jake Pagel
Pagel showed me some good things at the FBU TOP GUN camp and at the Rubio Long Snapping TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp at the IMG Academy in FL in July, 2016. He is a thick Long Snapper with very quick hands that can really get the ball moving back to the punter. When he is on, he is REALLY on and has a ball that is as quick as any Long Snapper in the country. Like to see him focus on making sure he is always leaning back to maintain more accuracy and that he really locks down snapping under pressure. The kid has great upside and could be one of the greats in college with simple fixes. Solid attitude that will do well in college.

A Guide For Rubio Long Snapping Parents on Game Day

As season starts, parents can tend to be filled with tons of emotions: joy, excitement, fear, nervousness, etc. All are normal and should be felt if your son is going to play on Friday, Saturday or even Sunday. Here are a couple of things to remember….

  1. You aren’t the first parent to go through this and you won’t be the last. Just like I tell my Long Snappers, if someone else has done it, so can you.
  2. Know that your son is well prepared. Odds are, if you are reading this, your son has been to a Rubio Long Snapping camp in the past couple months and got great instruction. Not only did he, but you did so as well. Remember when I brought you on the field? I don’t do that just because I want to spray with some people closer to my age. I do it so you can learn and teach your son when I am not around….and you have been doing that, right:)
  3. Review the mental aspect with your son before the game. Remind him, and yourself, that he, and you, are ready for this and he, and you, will dominate the moment.
  4. Make sure you hire someone else to film the game (one of your son’s friends or something….”Hey Johnny, here’s ten bucks, film the whole game, do it well, keep the camera on the Long Snapper and keep quiet”) so you can focus on the whole experience and not be stuck behind a camera seeing the game through a three inch screen.
  5. Prepare for the game with your son. After he snaps a great ball, you will want to give him signals to show him how great he did…thumbs up, big outstretched arms emulating a Rubio hug, blow him a kiss (get his lady friends involved).

Breathe. Have fun. Believe in your son. Have confidence in him. Trust me, it will overflow into him.

Enjoy every single moment you have with your children. This is an incredible time in your life and you need to embrace every single second of it.

Where Are They Now? Rubio Long Snapper Brian Bennyhoff

bennyhoff-b-cm-2009-482-089jpg-a972fc14971f59e6_smallThe next installment of “Where Are They Now?” takes us to Michigan to catch up with former Central Michigan Rubio Long Snapper Brian Bennyhoff!

What is your current occupation?

I’m a CPA with Ernst & Young in our Assurance practice, performing financial statement audits primarily in the automotive industry.

Where do you live?

I live outside Metro Detroit in Lake Orion, MI #WhereLivingIsAVacation

13626632_10157329850600121_7455014115815863114_nMarried? Kids?

I’ve been married to my beautiful wife, Kelly, for 13 months, and we’re expecting our first child in late January!

What is your fondest memory of your time playing college football?

The obvious answer is winning a MAC championship my sophomore year, as well as the GMAC bowl and finishing #23 in the nation. The not as obvious answer is looking back on all the time spent in the locker room, every single day, with such good friends and teammates. When we all get together now we reminisce much more on the fun in the locker room than the time we spent on the field. When I got married, my teammates roasted me at the rehearsal dinner. Nearly all the things on the list were inside jokes from the locker room. That’s the kind of stuff you never forget.

If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snappers, what would it be?

Listen to everything Rubio tells you, and I’m not just saying with snapping. He’s had more interaction with coaches, athletes, and the recruiting process than many, many other people. He knows what he’s doing, and he’s genuinely interested in what’s best for you. That includes the life advice he’ll casually offer or if you ask him his opinion. I wasn’t interested in Central Michigan when they first talked to me, but Rubio helped me keep that door open because he knew I’d need it. When other expected offers evaporated, CMU was still there, and I’d choose them again from the start if I could.

If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snapping PARENTS, what would it be?

The hard work helping train your son pays off. The snaps you catch every night, sometimes in the most unlikely places (i.e. hotel hallways), make a difference. Wherever your son plays next, whatever level, you take those memories with you, and the other parents you meet along the way who have made similar sacrifices will be your closest friends for the next 4/5 years during college.

10392317_10155272772120121_3908158657800194975_nWhen was the last time you snapped a ball and for what reason?

A few weeks ago. I lead a Bible study for a group of high school freshmen guys, and they wanted to see if I still have it. Spoiler alert: I do.

If you could go back and play football in college again, would you go to the same school or a different one? Why?

CMU, hands down. See my previous answers for obvious reasons why. The teammates I’ve met along the way, the lifelong memories we forged, the impact they still have on me, and the impact it had on my parents and family along the way are all things I wouldn’t trade for the world. The winning was pretty great, too!

Any regrets during college? Something you wish you had done or maybe hadn’t?

This goes both ways, regrets of things I did and didn’t do, and the lesson is learning which battles to fight. Coming back from injury, there were times I pushed too hard with my coaches to get back on the field and in the wrong way, and times I didn’t fight hard enough. Know which battles to fight, and fight them with strategy instead of force.

What tremendous thing have you been a part of or experienced since you graduated?

This could be a big list so I’ll keep if succinct. Personally, I’ve gotten married, am expecting my first child, ran two half-marathons, bought our first house, and love the community we’re blessed to live life with in Lake Orion and at Kensington Community Church. Professionally, I’ve earned my CPA, am a senior auditor at the firm I’ve dreamed of working at since I was young, and seen great team success by passing a PCAOB inspection (my profession’s regulator).

VEGAS XXIX CONTEST!

As you know, for each VEGAS Event, Rubio Long Snapping will always have a contest to earn a FREE admission to VEGAS XXIX. This year will be a little different! Here we go:

WHO: Any Long Snapper from 7th grade to second year of Junior College that would like to attend VEGAS XXIX for free.

WHATRubio Long Snapping VEGAS XXIX Gives Back!

Over the years we have seen some excellent examples of Rubio Long Snappers giving back to their community.  I want to see which Rubio Long Snappers are out there already volunteering their time, being active leaders in their community and, if you are not, why aren’t you and it is now time to get off your butts to do so!

For this contest, I would like to see which Long Snappers are involved in their local charities or actively volunteer across the world. You will need to submit a video entry, no longer than two minutes in length. Your video will have to be uploaded to YouTube with the title: Your Name, Rubio Long Snapping VEGAS XXIX Gives Back, 2016.

Your video entry will have to clearly state who you are, where you are, what charity or volunteer organization you are involved in, and why you are passionate about volunteering with that specific group.

The overall focus of the video should be why giving back is important to you.  It doesn’t matter who or what you support or how you give back, just show us why and how you do!  If you pick up trash off the beach on weekends, awesome, tell us why that is important to you.  Do you hand out meals or blankets to those in need, tell us why it is you started volunteering in that specific way.  This is not a competition to see who can give back the “best”.  We just want to encourage the ENTIRE Rubio Long Snapping family to get out and volunteer.  Don’t stress or put too much thought into it and do not feel bad if you’ve been slacking, simply get up and go!

This video does NOT need to be done with high tech cameras or anything like that as simply creating an edited iMovie on your iPhone would be more than sufficient to get your point across to the Rubio Long Snapping family.

WHEN: All entries must be submitted to me by email (Rubio@RubioLongSnapping) by October 1st at noon pst.

WHERE: All across the world!

WHY: To motivate and energize the Rubio Long Snapping family to get out and help their community and those around them.  The most inspiring video entry will earn a free admission to VEGAS XXIX.

Remember, Long Snapping can take you far in life, but giving back to your community will take you even farther!

Vegas XXIX_Contest

Please Note: If you win the contest and are already registered for VEGAS XXIX, your free admission will be pushed to VEGAS XXX in May!

It Wasn’t Supposed to be This Difficult

IMG_0550Headed to college…..

Everything is different now. People are looking at you like you are odd. You are at a whole new place in your life. Family is calling you. Old friends have wished you well. Everything is changing.

You knew it was coming and you worked for countless years to get to this point. You definitely had not done it all on your own. The list of people that have assisted you in getting to this point is gigantic and seems to keep growing.

You are amazed with yourself that you actually did it. You planned and planned and planned for this moment, yet, you still are overwhelmed that it finally came to fruition.

You don’t think you will be able to get through it. There’s no way you can. You continuously remind yourself that you are not the first person to do this, and definitely will not be the last.

The days get longer and longer. You look at old photos on your phone. You text. You call. You sob. You check Facebook. Sometimes you cry when people are looking and, a lot of times, when they aren’t. You never thought it would be this rough. This IS what YOU wanted, right?

You have spoken to others that have gone through what you are struggling with. You insist there’s no way they could have had it this rough. Times are different. Things are different. This is what you wanted, right? This is for the best, right? This is the next step in life, isn’t it?

Yes.

Yes it is. This is the plan. This is the way it needs to be. This is what has to happen in life in order to advance.

Who would have thought being a parent and having your child go to college would be so tough:)

Where Are They Now? Rubio Long Snapper Bobby Shepard

12966708_10154050395847305_193289109_n

The next installment of “Where Are They Now?” takes us to Northern California to catch up with former Fresno State Rubio Long Snapper Bobby Shepard!

What is your current occupation? I am a firefighter.

Where do you live? I live in Lodi, California.

Married? Kids? Single, with a three year old chocolate lab.

What is your fondest memory of your time playing college football? Both creating lifelong bonds with teammates and getting to travel the country and play in incredible stadiums. I played for a head coach that didn’t back down from any team. I was able to play in the Rose Bowl (and beat Rubio’s Bruins!), play at Camp Randall stadium, play at Nebraska, and at Candlestick Park to name a few.

If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snappers, what would it be? Work your butt off. Not only as an athlete, but even more so as a student. You can only wear pads for so long. There is so much more to your life than football. Also, have fun. It truly will be the quickest four or five years of your life. Enjoy it.

If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snapping PARENTS, what would it be? Support your son. My parents only missed two games in my entire playing career. Having them there every step of the way was incredibly rewarding. They were there for the game winning field goals and the rough losses. To this day it is something we always talk about. Very few kids get the opportunity to be a college athlete, soak it in with them.

12308534_10153718196912305_7028083895285253500_nWhen was the last time you snapped a ball and for what reason? I didn’t snap a football for probably two years after attending NFL free agent camps and try outs. Then probably a month ago some fellow firefighters wanted to see if I could still snap, and how fast it was.

If you could go back and play football in college again, would you go to the same school or a different one? Why? I would absolutely do it all over again and be a Fresno State Bulldog in a heart beat! Only one school wanted me to walk on for them. I am forever in debt to Coach Hill for letting me walk on. I am also beyond thankful to Coach John Baxter (USC) and Coach Pete Alamar (Stanford) for working with me. Also the city of Fresno truly cares about their Bulldogs and Fresno State as a whole. Their passion at games was unmatched.

Any regrets during college? Something you wish you had done or maybe hadn’t? My first few years in college, I didn’t really enjoy myself. My life was all football and school. While I loved that I was devoted to my sport and education, I didn’t really get to experience all that college had to offer until later in my career.

What tremendous thing have you been a part of or experienced since you graduated? Since I graduated in 2011, I was able to attend Graduate School while playing my Senior season. I earned my Master’s degree in Sport Psychology. Obviously, my job is incredible to me! As cliché as it sounds, I love being the person that gets respond to help people when they are injured or having problems in their life.

Rubio Long Snapping YouTube Page!

The Rubio Long Snapping YouTube page has hit 1,000,000 views!!!

This is simply an incredible accomplishment as this account is, and it pains me to say it like this, only for Long Snappers.

To me, what is the most impressive thing about hitting the 1,000,000 mark in well less than ten years is that they are all genuine views and not done from a bot.

A bot is a an app companies pay for to increase their views….basically, a formula is created and it keeps “watching” the videos. It is actually funny (and sad) to watch other “bot” videos get massive amount of views in one day when you know for a fact no one is watching them and it is not authentic by being smoke and mirrors….bottom line, keep an eye out for fake exposure.

Preparing for VEGAS XXVIII

VEGAS XXVIII (the 2nd largest Long Snapping event in the world, our January event is the 1st) is taking place on May 21-22, 2016 and there are a couple key things to know as we head into that weekend.

  1. CONFIRMATION EMAILS with basic details of the weekend will be sent out on Monday, May 16th. Be on the lookout and if you are registered, but don’t get one, let us know ASAP!
  2. The VEGAS XXVIII PACKET (this will have ALL of the weekends information in GREAT detail) will be emailed to you as a PDF on Thursday, May 19th. This will be your baby for the whole weekend. We decided it was best to let you have them as a file in your email, instead of printed out for several reasons (no need to make copies, you can’t lose this one, it will be on your phones which are always with you). We will NOT be printing any packets out so if you do want it printed out, you will need to do that yourself.
