Recap Article & Video of the Rubio Long Snapping Camp in IL

Long Snappers came out on March 30 to attend the Rubio Long Snapping Camp in IL from IL, OH, IN, MS, MD, IA, KY, MI, TN, NY, MO, PA, NJ and NC  to get the best  Long Snapping instruction and exposure in the country for Long Snappers. Long Snappers, and their parents/guardians, were instructed on the field, had a film and classroom session, a recruiting seminar and ended the day with a competition with Rubio present and running the camp. Each Long Snapper was filmed and will have a player profile provided for them on RubioLongSnapping.com.

Whitehouse, HarleyThe overall winner of the camp was Harley Whitehouse (MO, ’15). Harley had a great day and handled the pressure very well. He was snapping hard and with a lot of confidence. Really came on when he needed to in order to lock up the victory. Love to see him get his spiral locked down and a bit more speed but he is well on his way. Expect to see great things from Harley in Vegas!

TOP 2014 Long Snappers…

  • Wyatt Pfeifer was flat out dominant all day. The Western Michigan commit left no doubt he is worth of a scholarship with smooth and accurate snaps all day long in Chicago.
  • Mitch Hardy showed, yet again, great improvement. He is snapping a very accurate ball and has a lot of confidence. Always getting better and overflowing with an amazing attitude. The coaches will love him at Arkansas St.
  • Andrew Robinson is a VERY quick learner that shows great poise every time I see him at a camp. Body is very solid and he is accurate.

Other notable 2014 Long Snappers: Will Henrichs

TOP 2015 Long Snappers…

  • Ben Makowski was easily the top 2015 Long Snapper in attendance. He is a massive man with great power and determination. If he reaches through well, he is easily as good as anyone in the country. Keep a very close eye on him in Vegas. This kid is making a very big name for himself.
  • Tyler Griffiths looked wonderful at the camp. He is built very well with great athleticism and an excellent attitude. He is gaining a lot of confidence and should make serious move in rankings if he keeps this going in Vegas.
  • Matt Foley came out from CA and did well all day. His form is excellent and he is creating a lot of speed with his legs.
  • Hunter Varga is gaining confidence and it is paying off. He is a very consistent and accurate due to his very good form.

Other notable 2015 Long Snappers: Carson Vey, Jake Knight, Brendan Lowery, Jeremy Ashworth and Jackson Mahorney

TOP 2016 Long Snappers…

  • John Shannon had a good day in Chicago. He easily snaps at D1 speeds and it isn’t even close. His frame is very solid and he is strong. The more he locks down his spiral, the better he will be. Hard worker and coachable.
  • Steven Wirtel shows a lot of promise and is well on his way to greatness. He might just have the most potential of anyone in his class. Sky is the limit for Wirtel. Keep a very close eye on him in Vegas.
  • Phillip Thomas had a great day in Chicago. He has improved a ton and just keeps getting better. His form is very good and he is starting to get a lot of confidence and that will pay off big time in the end. Great day for Phillip

Other notable 2016 Long Snappers: Paul Monaco, Brad Robinson

TOP 2017 Long Snappers…

  • Nate Durham was wonderful all day long in Chicago. He is large for his age and already has great form. I am very impressed with how well he listens and always is improving.
  • Joe Calcagno did well in Chicago. He has a great attitude and his form is looking solid. Good day for him and his future is bright.
  • Shiloh Mast impressed me all day in Chicago. He is snapping the ball hard and with a ton of confidence. Keep an eye on him.

Other notable 2017 Long Snappers: Jake Hess, Benji Gormley, Kyle O’Connor, Marshall Coluzzi, Jeremiah Riordan and Grant Miller

TOP 12 – Day ONE Recap

The best of the best Long Snappers in the country have come to Los Angeles, CA for the annual Rubio Long Snapping TOP 12 and EVENT ELITE Camp! The three day event will feature instruction, evaluation and top snappers competing against one another for 72 hours straight!

Long Snappers are in Los Angeles from AZ, CA, MS, AR, KS, OH, IL, WA, GA, MN, WI and VA to compete against one another and learn from the best. The first session of camp was used to halt the butterflies and knock off the rust from a long travel day for many of the athletes. At this camp there are several Long Snappers already with full ride offers. Tanner Carew has committed to Oregon, Blake Ferguson has been offered a scholarship to LSU and Liam McCullough has picked up two offers this week: one from Michigan St and one from Wisconsin.

Some of the top Long Snappers today, that didn’t allow the nerves to get the best of them, were Tanner Carew, Blake Ferguson, Wyatt Smith, Wyatt Pfeifer, Davis Winkie, Alan Lucy and Liam McCullough.

Tonight we will have the TOP 12 Yellow Shirt ceremony and then we will be back at tomorrow with a massive morning session that will focus on pressure, blocking and confidence. Great group of kids at a great camp.

Be sure to follow Rubio Long Snapping on Twitter and Facebook for continuous updates this weekend!

Nike Spring Camp in IL – Recap

Long Snappers came out to IL on Sunday, March 17th from KY, MO, MN, KS, OH, IL, CT, IN, MI, IA and NY to get the best instruction and exposure in the country for Long Snappers. The talent was the best I have seen this fall in one location. The overall winner of the camp was Tommy Sullivan (IL, ’14). Tommy has improved a great deal since his first camp with Rubio Long Snapping. He has transformed his body and his form is excellent. Sky is the limit for this Midwest Long Snapper.

Other Long Snappers that were exceptional throughout the day were….

2013

Miller, Gabriel

Miller was tremendous all day in IL

  • Gabriel Miller  (IN) – This Nebraska commit left no doubt the Huskers made a great decision in offering him a full scholarship. Miller ended up losing the entire competition by about a quarter of an inch. He is definitely ready for the next level.
  • Sean Corcoran (IL) – He has really put some good size on and his snapping with confidence. Definitely making a play to really push for the starting spot next year at Penn St. Looked the most solid I have seen him….and I have seen him many times.
Freeze, Patrick

Freeze was dominant all day in IL

2014

  • Patrick Freeze (IN) – This massive Long Snapper was amazing all day. He continually impressed me with his terrific form, hard snaps and confidence. If he snaps like he did in IL when he gets to Vegas, there is NO DOUBT he makes EVENT ELITE. Keep a very close eye on Freeze.
  • Wyatt Pfeifer (OH) – Just continues to improve and improve. Body is thick, strong and solid. His form is excellent and he is snapping as though he knows he is the best out there. Love that attitude when you can back it up…he can back it up.
  • Bronson Bruneau (MN) – Built like a college tight end and snaps like a college Long Snapper. Massive frame that could easily put on another 40 lbs. Huge upside on Bruneau. Dripping with possibilities.
  • Reid Buckingham (KS) – Easily one of the best Long Snappers in his class and could easily be the best IF he gets set. Tons of upside on this very smooth Long Snapper. Great attitude.
  • Nate Hawkins (OH) – Is a very athletic Long Snapper that never stops getting better. Slow and steady, he continues to climb the rankings. Great personality and very coachable.
  • Seth Combs (IL) – A Long Snapper with excellent form that snaps the ball very hard. Needs size to really push for top spots. Potential.
McCullough, Liam

Liam was throwing heat all day in IL.

2015

  • Liam McCullough (OH) – He proved, yet again, he is the best in his class. He has put on some great weight and looks different, in a good way, than he did just a couple months ago in Vegas. Liam easily snaps college speeds now and, when he gets through, he never misses. Amazing talent for his age.
  • Nick Janicki (IL) – Might be the most athletic Long Snapper in his class. Improving rapidly and could easily make a play for the top Long Snapper in his class.
  • Jake Knight  (MI) – He has D1 size as a sophomore and is close to snapping a D1 ball as well. Powerful Long Snapper with tons of potential. Keep an eye on him.
  • Ben Makowski (IN) – Very thick Long Snapper oozing potential. Very close to being “there” and when he gets there, the rest of his class will suffer.
  • Hunter Varga (IL) – Has really been working on his form and it is paying off. He snaps a smooth ball and will be as good as he wants to be. Snapping hard will be key for Varga.
  • Jackson Mahorney (KY) – Very smooth Long Snapper with great form. The harder he snaps, the better he will be. Built thick and strong.

2016 and Beyond…

Walsh, Ryan

Walsh is well beyond his years with his Long Snapping.

  • Ryan Walsh (IL) – Amazing talent for his age (2018). Form is exceptional and he uses all of his body when he snaps. The bigger and stronger he gets, the better he will be. Handles pressure well.
  • Nate Durham (IL) – Is really impressing me and I almost shocked he is only a 2017. Snaps with great form and solid speed. Great attitude.
  • John Shannon (IL) – Was excellent all day for his first Rubio Long Snapping camp. This freshman has a very bright future with his Long Snapping.

Other notables from the camp in IL: Jackson Mahorney, Hayden Grover, Joseph Kramer, Samuel Wilson, Brandon Wolf, Matt Combs, Seth Combs, Clay Chasteen and Jake Hess.

Rubio Long Snapping will continue it’s Nike Spring tour on Saturday, April 13th in Charlotte, NC. That camp will be followed by camps in GA and CA all leading up to the 11th Annual National Kicking and Snapping Spring Event in Las Vegas on May 4-5, 2013!

Meet the 2013 Members of the TOP 12!

After every National Snapping Event in Las Vegas in January, I choose the TOP 12 underclassmen Long Snappers. They are the best of the best out in Vegas and are selected to participate in the Invite Only TOP 12 and EVENT ELITE (these Long Snappers will be chosen after the Spring Event in Vegas) during the summer. Only the true great ones are allowed to attend the TOP 12 and EVENT ELITE camp and you must do extremely well in Vegas to be considered. The percent of Long Snappers that have been invited to this camp and continued their careers into college is well over 95%!

If you make this list, you obviously can snap the ball and do it well. Now, I wanted to give you a bit of insight on them off the field. In alphabetical order….
