George Steward Award

To honor Rubio Long Snapper George Steward, let’s do this again!

If you have been following me on social media over the past couple of years, you know that the Rubio Long Snapping family suffered a terrible loss with the tragic death of Rubio Long Snapper George Steward several years ago.

George was simply waiting at an intersection, with his long time girlfriend, when an out of control car crushed his car and ended his, and his girlfriend’s lives. They were 18 years old.

If you knew George, even for a second, you knew he was always smiling and having a good time. His smile was infectious. He was a big man with a big heart and an even bigger smile.

George was the perfect reflection of a Rubio Long Snapper.

I have spoken to his mom (and I know many Rubio Long Snapping family members have as well) several times over the past couple of years. She is obviously extremely distraught over what has occurred but wants George to live on with Rubio Long Snapping. She told me he was extremely proud to be a Rubio Long Snapper (look at his graduation announcement) and was always in a Rubio shirt.

George’s mom, Adrienne De La Fuente, wants to create a VEGAS scholarship in George’s name. She wants to sponsor a deserving Long Snapper that wants to go to VEGAS but possibly doesn’t have the means. She asked me to create the criteria, so here we go….

WHO: Any Long Snapper from 7th grade to 2nd year of JC. If you have won this award before, you cannot win it again. Sorry Jaden Sanchez

WHAT: This award will go simply to a happy Long Snapper. In honor of George, who was ALWAYS smiling and happy, this award will go to someone on that same page. To enter, you need to include at least three pictures of you with a genuine smile. Three more with you around others smiling and two letters of recommendation (yup, you guessed it, just stating you are happy person) from a someone at your school (preferably a teacher and/or administrator) .

WHEN: All entries must be in my hand by November 14th. Now, to make things easier this year, they can be mailed OR scanned and emailed to me at Rubio@RubioLongSnapping.com

WHERE: All entries must be mailed to me at the following address:
Rubio Long Snapping
1104 Richardson Ave.
Lewiston, ID. 83501

If you win this award but have already signed up for VEGAS XXXIII, I will push your win to VEGAS XXXIV!

VEGAS XXXII – Snap Speeds

If you have been following Rubio Long Snapping on social media (TwitterFacebookSnapchatInstagramLinkedIn), then you must know how much of a success VEGAS XXXII was on May 12-14!

Approximately 150 Long Snappers came in from all over the world to compete against the best in the world of Long Snapping!

Nick Monaghan was on hand, again, and took 1,000s of amazing photos to check out and purchase for friends and family! You can see the links HERE and HERE. Trust me, take ten minutes and go through this man’s incredible work and be sure to pick up some for your collection.

Congratulations go out to long time Rubio Long Snapper Drew Little on committing to North Carolina on full scholarship and winning the whole thing at VEGAS XXXII. Little was absolutely dominant all weekend and left no doubt he is a man amongst boys out on the field.

As always, please follow Rubio Long Snapping on social media (links above) for all TOP 12 Camp invitees, camp updates (summer camps are now up and filling quickly) and ranking announcements

Here are the SNAP SPEEDS from VEGAS XXXII. Every Long Snapper was timed a minimum of ten times over the course of the weekend by Rubio and staff members (target testing). Rubio was actually timing Long Snappers throughout the day on Saturday as well (many of whom never even noticed) to get the most accurate average of snap times ever at a VEGAS Event. Bottom line, the times you see below are from 15 yards and averaged with testing, running and agility snaps.

VEGAS XXXII – RSI Scores

If you have been following Rubio Long Snapping on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn), then you must know how much of a success VEGAS XXXII was on May 12-14!

The Winner of VEGAS XXXI

Reporter Ritz

My 15 year old son, Alec (I call him Ritz) has expressed some interest in becoming a journalist. I told him to choose a topic and I would “publish” it for him. Here it is….

_______________________________

The date is January 14, 2018. Zach Edwards bends down to pick up his final ball of the evening and silence swarms the crowd of 300 teenagers gathered on that small field in Las Vegas, Nevada…

This is the finals of VEGAS XXXI.

Tied 7-7, four and a half star Rubio Long Snapper, Zach Edwards gets his feet set and looks at the target looming 15 yards away. Other Rubio long snappers are gathered on all sides, awaiting the snap. This is Zach’s moment.

He tucks his TOP 12 Camp t-shirt under his chin, ensuring that his vision will not be impaired and reaches out for the ball. This is it. All his hard work and preparation for the event have led up to this one moment. Perspiration builds on his head as he takes his final breath before the snap.

Without hesitation, his hands and fingers flash simultaneously with his legs and arms. Black rubber shoots out in all directions as his feet slide across the turf field. Head through, eyes up, wrists together. Just like Zach practiced. The ball whips off of his fingertips, slicing through the air like a 15 ounce leather spacecraft. It’s literally out of his hands now, nothing more he can do as the ball continues to fly through the air in a mind boggling fast 360 degree spiral. It inches closer and closer towards that coveted chain link target brought out specifically for the occasion. The oxygen is stole from the crowd. Time slows down. Rubio’s face becomes engulfed in anticipation as the ball finally reaches its target destination…

KA-PLING!!!

The Rubio stamped Adidas football comes to rest capitulated at the bottom of the 2 point target square.

One snap later with many unblinking eyes watching, his opponent Kameron Hawkins would miss the final snap of the event.

Zach Edwards has just won VEGAS XXXI!
