Recap of the NC Fall Camp (10/7/18)

There was an excellent group of instructors in NC led by Casey Hales and Jeff Abraham!

Rubio Long Snapping traveled to NC on October 7th, 2018 for their fall camp. Rubio Long Snapping will be traveling around the country this fall with stops in NC, NJ, WA, CA, TX, GA, AZ, IL with everything leading into the biggest and best Long Snapping event in the world, VEGAS XXXIII in January!

Long Snappers from NC, SC, GA, MS, VA, IL, NJ, FL & TN all traveled to this camp to get the best instruction and exposure in the world of Long Snapping. The camp was a great time had by all with an excellent group of Long Snappers and parents.

The champion of the camp was Drew Little! Drew was simply tremendous with smooth and powerful snaps non-stop from start to finish. The North Carolina Tar Heel commit was the overall and speed champion, which doesn’t happen often at all. Form is excellent and he just keeps getting better! The Tar Heels got a great one in Drew!

The finals round matchups were between Matt Parrino (49.35), Drew Little (43.06), Joe Shimko (30.43), Justin Pollack (30.26), Rhys Suter (29.11) and Will Cobb (28.92).  You can see the full finals video below….

Drew Little was off the charts and dominated from the start. Great to see him always improving and leaving no doubt that North Carolina got a great Long Snapper coming in for the 2019 season!

Joe Shimko continues to roll along and be one of the top Long Snappers in the country. Yet again, he made it deep into the finals and could have easily won the whole thing. This NC State commit snaps one of the hardest balls in the country.

Rhys Suter

Rhys Suter was smooth and knocking it out of the park all day in NC. Snapping with excellent power and one of the most accurate Long Snappers around. He has a 33 ACT and is snapping with excellent speed.

John Morton is thick and powerful with a very smooth snap. Ball is very quick out of the gate.

Justin Pollock looks like a college tight-end and moves like one as well. The upside is off the charts for Justin.

Matt Parrino almost won the whole camp and was snapping with excellent power all day long. Great attitude.

Kuper Imrem has some of the quickest hands around and is always improving.

Will Benton has a good size and showed tons of potential. Smooth Long Snapper and there is no doubt he can do this at the next level.

Will Mitchell is a big Long Snapper with great upside. Smooth snapping motion and has all of the tools to be one of the greats.

JT Tyson might have the most potential of anyone in his class.

Mason Williams was using his body very well and snapping a great ball all day long.

Recap of the NC Summer Camp (6/30/18)

Rubio Long Snapping traveled to NC on June 30th, 2018 for their summer camp. Rubio Long Snapping will be traveling around the country this spring with stops in CA, NC, GA, IL, SC (Top Gun Camp), CA (College, TOP 12, Underclassmen Invitational) and TX!

Long Snappers from AZ, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, MA, NC, NJ, NY, SC, TX, VA & WV all traveled to this camp to get the best instruction and exposure in the world of Long Snapping. The camp was a great time had by all with an excellent group of Long Snappers and parents.

The champion of the camp was Joe Shimko! Shimko was the overall and speed champion. He has become as dominant a Long Snapper that has gone through Rubio Long Snapping in quite some time. He has now won six camp in the last year and a half. He recently committed to NC State on full scholarship and they got a great one. He snaps as hard as anyone in his class, moves extremely well and handles pressure as well as anyone in the country. He is an absolute machine that gets better with each and every camp. Flat out stud.

The finals round matchups were Rhys Suter (53.73), Joe Shimko (42.86), Carson Knight (42.67), Drew Little (39.13), Ben Wheless (38.36) and Cody White (37.50). You can see the full finals video below….

TOP 2019 LONG SNAPPERS

Drew Little

Joe Shimko was obviously dominant all day in NC. Speed and overall champion left no doubt he is, easily, one of the top Long Snappers in the country. He is an absolute machine.

Drew Little was on fire all day in NC. Body is getting thicker and stronger by the second. Ball is smooth and extremely fast with times under .70 at all times. The North Carolina Tar Heels got a great one. Ball is so smooth and he has zero wasted movement.

Doug McLaughlin is smooth and powerful. Always improving. Body is tightening up. Workhorse.

Rhys Suter looked very sharp in NC. Body is solid and he is snapping with great power right now. Locking down his spiral is going to be key. Great attitude.

Carson Knight made it to the finals and has the ability to snap some severe heat back to the punter. When he is on, he is very on.

Scooter Hinton is a massive human being with excellent power. Very raw with upside that is off the charts.

John Morton snaps a very smooth ball and has a nice, thick frame.

Justin Pollock is built like a college tight end right now and has all of the tools for greatness.

Matt Parrino is a big man that has the ability snap a very powerful ball back to the punter.

Notables: Kevin Thompson, CJ Otwell, Tripp Heath. Henry Freer, Sam Hargett

TOP 2020 LONG SNAPPERS

Cody White

Cody White had a great day in NC making it deep into the finals and snapping with great power. He came all the way out from CA and showed he can easily be one of the top Long Snappers in his class.

Bryce Eimer got hot late and did great in NC. Very good attitude and he is snapping the ball very well right now. North Jersey should be proud.

Jake Foggia is solid with his form, attitude and the spiral when he is snapping the ball. When he really lets it go, the ball can fly out of his hands.

Ryan Purcell was snapping balls back to the punter under .80 with his quick hands and smooth hands. Impressive day.

Will McCoy has all of the tools to be one of the greats. Incredible frame.

Will Cobb is extremely athletic and when gets hot, he is on fire!

Notables: Griff Barlow, Michael Bowles, Kir Holton, Jack May, Cole McCutcheon, Cole Rasmussen, Brandon Richards

TOP 2021 LONG SNAPPERS

Rocco Underwood

Rocco Underwood has a great frame and can rip the ball back to the punter. Locking down his release point to increase his accuracy is going to be huge for Rocco.

Alex McLaughlin is a strong Long Snapper that can easily hit under .80 when his spiral is on and he is getting his eyes through. Solid athlete and great upside.

Austin Turner is big and powerful with one of the tightest spirals in the country. Great potential and he is a hard worker.

Ty Nicholas is one of the most intriguing Long Snappers in his class. Built extremely well and once it clicks, he will crush the rest of his class.

Aaron Brannon shows waves of brilliance and has tons of upside.

Ben Wheless charted very well and earned a top 6 RSI to get all the way into the finals.

Paul Joseph Meyers is built extremely well and could easily do this at the next level if he keeps improving with his legs.

Notables: Samuel Watkins, Stewart Jones

TOP 2022 LONG SNAPPERS

Briggs Magee

Briggs Magee already has good form and I love his attitude. Always improving and he is starting to move well on his feet. Ball is quick for his age and just getting better. Watch this kid!

Recap of the NC Spring Camp (3/11/18)

Rubio Long Snapping traveled to NC on March 11th, 2018 for their fall camp. Rubio Long Snapping will be traveling around the country this spring with stops in CA, NC, WA, NJ, AZ, IL, GA and TX with all camps leading right into VEGAS XXXII on May 12-13, 2018!

Maddie Golden, Rubio and Joe Shimko!

Long Snappers from 13 states all traveled to this camp to get the best instruction and exposure in the world of Long Snapping. The camp was overflowing with talent with many committed seniors and also tons of new Long Snappers.

The overall champions of the camp were Maddie Golden (speed) and Joe Shimko (overall). Shimko has won four camps in the past year and continues to be amazing on the field. He is one of the only Long Snappers I have ever seen that actually gets better as the day goes on. The more tired Shimko gets, the better he ends up snapping the ball.

You can see the full finals video with Drew Little, Will Cobb, Christian Johnstone, Joseph Shimko, Aaron Brannock and Bryce Eimer below…

Maddie Golden

TOP 2018 LONG SNAPPERS
Maddie Golden was amazing in NC. His speeds were so good that I had to re-time him several times as they were so good. Easily was snapping sub .75 at 15 yards with tons of snaps in the .6s. He won the overall speed competition with snaps in the low .6s.

Brock Assel is looking very solid (be sure to check out his hair!) and was snapping with great consistency. Upside is very solid and I am loving his work ethic. Air Force got a great one.

Trey Gable was very impressive in NC. Form is excellent, he snaps well under a pressure and he has a tremendous attitude. His snapping motion has minimal wasted movement and he can rip the ball back to the punter.

Notable: Graham Finklea

TOP 2019 LONG SNAPPERS

Mad Dog

Quentin “Mad Dog” Skinner left absolutely no doubt he is the best junior in the country. Moves well on his feet, he is massive and he is as consistent as anyone in the country. Ball is so smooth yet so powerful. It is a pure joy to watch and LSU is lucky to have him coming in two years. Kid is a flat out stud.

Drew Little was on fire in NC and continues to show me why NC State had no problem offering him a full scholarship during his junior year. Form is excellent and he snaps the ball with great force. So smooth and a tremendous worker that is always improving. Great attitude.

Christian Johnstone can pass an eyeball test from a 1/4 mile away, moves well on his feet and has a great personality. He snaps a really catchable ball that will stick to your hands.

Joe Shimko was incredible in the finals and just ripped the ball back, time after time, right into the three hole. The more exhausted he gets, the more dominant he becomes. It’s just crazy to watch.

Douglas McLaughlin was solid all day in NC. He has a great frame and is one of the most accurate/consistent Long Snappers in the country.

William Wagner has done a great job improving his overall frame and was snapping with a purpose. Keep a very close eye on him at VEGAS XXXII in May.

Luke Hosford was impressive in NC. Form is great and he has excellent size. Watch this kid.

Rhys Suter is coming off an injury and you would never even know it. Form is great and he was having no problem snapping in the mid .7s.

Luke Payne had a solid day in NC with extremely accurate and consistent snaps. The bigger and stronger he gets, the better he will be in the long run.

Brandon Hurst showed me tremendous upside. When he is quick with his snapping motion and snaps hard, he is as good as they get.

Mark Fuchs has great starting form and is smooth when snapping the ball. Leading with his elbows and snapping with full power will help a ton.

Griffin Kaye showed incredible upside and there is no doubt he can snap at the next level.

Liam Crowley did well in NC. Looks like he is continuing to grow and has no problem snapping a ball sub .79. Great upside.

Notables: Peter Griffith, Alex Harper, Carson Knight, Matt Parrino, Justin Pollock, Nathan Smith, Kevin Thompson, Heath Tripp

TOP 2020 LONG SNAPPERS

Will Albright

Will Albright looked excellent in NC. He moves extremely well on his feet, he has a frame that can easily put on some good weight over the next couple of years.

Zane McCracken is really improving well as he is snapping with confidence and snapping an extremely smooth ball. When his eyes go all the way through, he can easily get sub .75. Getting bigger by the second.

Bryce Eimer made it into the finals with an incredible RSI score. Accuracy is tremendous and he is starting to really snap well under pressure. Great attitude.

Jake Foggia was very solid in NC. Form is coming along nicely and he is beginning to snap with a great deal of confidence. Excellent attitude.

Will Cobb was snapping with excellent accuracy and made it to the finals. Easily could have won and only lost by inches. Gaining power and strength will be huge for Cobb as we head towards VEGAS XXXII in May.

John Bergeron looked very good with excellent form and a solid attitude. Balance is very good and he is always improving.

Byron Floyd is big, strong, powerful and can rip the ball back to the punter sub .75. Really impressive Long Snapper and person.

Ryan Purcell is smooth, accurate and is growing by the second. Great upside.

Peter Haynes is an athletic Long Snapper that is using his whole body very well. Locking down his consistency will be huge as we move ahead.

Notables: Alex Applefield, Ethan Lane, Ted Busbee, Will McCoy, Zach Cowan, and Cheyenne Wray

TOP 2021 and BEYOND LONG SNAPPERS

Nick Walker

Nick Walker looked very solid in NC. He is growing by the second and can already get the ball back to the punter in under .75! The upside on Walker is off the charts if he keeps improving at this rate.

Austin Turner

Austin Turner was excellent in NC. I just saw him a couple of months ago and, I kid you not, he looked like he had grown a foot in the last couple of months. Form is excellent, ball is tight and his upside is off the charts. He could easily be the top Long Snapper in his class at VEGAS XXXII in May.

Aaron Brannock had a great day in NC and made it all the way to the finals. Tremendous accomplishment for a freshman. The less he thinks, the better Brannock will do in the long run.

Oden Pierce showed me good things in NC. Great frame and he moves very well on his feet.

Alex McLaughlin did well in NC with solid athleticism and a nice, catchable ball. If he can eliminate his hitch by VEGAS XXXII in May, he could find himself staring down a TOP 12 Camp Invite.

Notables: Stewart Jones, Carson Keaton, Josh Giambrone, Gabe Landers, Nathan Merchant

RSI Scores from the Rubio Long Snapping NC Summer Camp

Rubio Long Snapping camps will feature a shortened version of the VEGAS testing format. Once the Long Snapper has completed the test, they earn an RSI which is the fairest and most accurate way to judge a Long Snapper by numbers. Once you register, for a Rubio Long Snapping camp, a full, detailed explanation will be in your confirmation email.

Each Long Snapper will be tested on The Rubio Long Snapping Target with one snap per section instead of three. Meaning, you get one regular snap, one block left, one block right, and one speed for both punt snaps and short snaps to total eight snaps. Therefore, at the end of testing, the RSI will be tripled to reveal the participants’ RSI for that particular camp. Trust me, I do get that a Regional Camp RSI will not be the exact same as a VEGAS Event RSI for several reasons (length of test, pressure of Vegas, etc.) but it will pretty darn close and definitely fair.

The RSI is an excellent way for a participant to truly show how good of a Long Snapper they are as it balances the accuracy along with the speed of the ball, plus it will show how well the Long Snapper grows through each and every Rubio Long Snapping camp. Also, the RSI‘s will be posted on each Long Snappers profile after every camp they attend. Please note: the RSI does not account for athleticism, spiral or mentality.

RSI‘s can range from zero to basically 90 (if a Long Snapper was to get a score 48 points and averaged .65 on their punt snaps). The highest I have ever encountered is a 60.61 by Kasey Kelleher at VEGAS XXIX. The 12 finalists at VEGAS XXIX all had above 50’s on their RSI and that was a record. A 30 is usually pretty darn solid.

Please Note: The RSI is not completely how your Rubio Long Snapping ranking will be calculated as there are many factors to being a great Long Snapper. The main things that each Long Snapper will be ranked on are the following:

Speed (should be less than .75 for a 15 yard punt snap)
Accuracy (all snaps should be in The Rubio Zone)
Consistency (a college coach is going to want to see how consistent you are with your speed…if you can snap a .75, your snaps should be right around there, well, consistently)
Mentality (how well do you handle pressure)
Athleticism (do you move well or does it look like you are in pain when moving)
Size (an ideal Long Snapper would be about 6’3″ and 235)
Spiral (does the ball look pretty, slice through the wind and easy to catch)
Blocking (will you be able to withstand a major college rush)

RSI Scores Comparison Between CA, NC & WA

As you know by reading this blog, Rubio Long Snapping has adjusted the testing aspect of all regional camps this spring with the “introduction” of the RSI. I put “introduction” in quotes because RSI has been around for MANY years at the Rubio Long Snapping VEGAS Events but has just recently been worked into the regional camps to add continuity and to track the Long Snappers and their improvement.

For the first Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA, the RSI scores are shown here, the NC RSI scores are shown here and the WA RSI scores are here. Now that three camps have concluded, here are  the comparisons and contrasts between the three geographical areas and their Long Snappers. This is getting VERY interesting! Here you go….

Starting this spring, all Rubio Long Snapping camps will feature a shortened version of the VEGAS testing format. Once the Long Snapper has completed the test, they earn an RSI which is the fairest and most accurate way to judge a Long Snapper by numbers. Once you register, for a Rubio Long Snapping camp, a full, detailed explanation will be in your confirmation email.
Each Long Snapper will now be tested on The Rubio Long Snapping Target with one snap per section instead of three.
RSI‘s can range from zero to basically 80 (if a Long Snapper was to get a score 48 points and averaged .65 on their punt snaps). I believe the highest I have ever encountered a 60.61 by Kasey Kelleher at VEGAS XXIX.
-Speed (should be less than .75 for a 15 yard punt snap)
-Accuracy (all snaps should be in The Rubio Zone)
-Consistency (a college coach is going to want to see how consistent you are with your speed…if you can snap a .75, your snaps should be right around there, well, consistently)
-Mentality (how well do you handle pressure)
-Athleticism (do you move well or does it look like you are in pain when moving)
-Size (an ideal Long Snapper would be about 6’3″ and 235)
-Spiral (does the ball look pretty, slice through the wind and easy to catch)
-Blocking (will you be able to withstand a major college rush) If you have ever been to a Rubio Long Snapping Vegas Event, you know that one of the main parts of competition day is when each Long Snapper gets tested on The Rubio Long Snapping Target.
