Where Are They Now? Rubio Long Snapper PJ Tobyansen

1929591_574887992716_9507_nFor the next installment of “Where Are They Now?” we head to Southern California to hear from Rubio Long Snapper PJ Tobyansen (2006, CA). PJ was at UCLA with Rubio Long Snapper Christian Yount and is one of the most vibrant people you will ever meet and comes from an incredible family. Wait until you seen what he is doing now!

Check out what has been going on with Rubio Long Snapper PJ Tobyansen…

1.  What is your current occupation?

After my career at UCLA I have been working in the film industry in Los Angeles area and have done so for the past five years. My past employers have been Fox, Sony, and Marvel studios. I am currently working for Disney on the film The Jungle Book as a Visual Effects Coordinator for the past year and half.

2. Where do you live?

I live with my wife Julie in Woodland Hills CA. We have been happily married for TWO months 🙂

3. Married/ Kids? Yes, no kids.

4. What is your fondest memory of your time playing college football?

I have so many good memories that I would love to share about my time playing college football. But I will share two, meeting my wife for the first time at UCLA, and running out of tunnel at the Rose Bowl the very first game of my career. I will Never forget both of those memories.

5. If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snappers, what would it be?

For all current Rubio Long Snappers my one bit of advise would be the following. Work on the little things in life, and continue to strive for greatness. You made the right move and your a Rubio long snapper. Rubio hammers into each an everyone of his snappers muscle memory. IT WORKS, plan and simple. You don’t get good muscle memory if you don’t work on the little things and your fundamentals. Just continue to grow and  practice the little things, the little fundamentals, work work work. If you keep adding 1% to your game each day by practicing this approach you will see your results shine. And I can assure you it carries over into your professional life.

6. If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snapping PARENTS, what would it be?

For all current Rubio Long Snapper parents my advice would be patients, TRUST RUBIO he is a wise wise man.

7. When was the last time you snapped a ball and for what reason?

The last time I snapped a football is actually a very funny story. The day before my wedding Friday June 26, 2015. Kai Forbath (Washington Redskins) who I grew up with and played football in HS and College. We were hanging out in my hotel suite and just messing around and catching up. My dad had a football there and Kai was begging me to snap to him for old time sake. Just to see if I still had it. I reluctantly agreed, thinking to myself man its been almost THREE years since the last time I snapped a football. So we had a good stretch of carpet 15 yards all that you need. I fired my first snap back as hard as I could and almost destroyed the thermostat on the wall. Kai yells at me “PEEJ!! a little off there!!” I screamed back hahhaa ok!! just getting warmed up here, give me a second!! I made a little correction and fired the next 5 perfect snaps back to him. I still had it!! He calls my parents in and goes he still has it!! I said two words to my parents MUSCLE MEMORY. It probably helped that I had an adrenaline rush going because it was the day before my wedding but I’ll take it!

 8.   If you could go back and play football in college again, would you go to the same school or a different one? Why?

If I could go back and play college football again, even tho I did not play, I would still go to UCLA as preferred walk-on. I was a part of a GREAT TEAM, It was the best time of my life. I met my wife and made great memories with team mates and friends that will last me a life time. I also get the greatest kick out of telling my co-workers and friends that two out of the three players in my position group at UCLA play currently  in the NFL, and yes I was the 3rd that didn’t make it. I’m so proud of those guys, and proud to be a Bruin!

 9. Any regrets during college? Something you wish you had done or maybe hadn’t?

I have no regrets about my choices in college I would do it the exact same way. I worked very hard to contribute to the team. I learned a lot from my time as a student athlete and I am very grateful and so fortunate to have done so.

10.   What tremendous thing have you been a part of or experienced since you graduated?

The most tremendous thing that I have been apart of since my graduation from UCLA would be first and foremost my Wedding two months ago to Julie who was a former student athlete and national champion 3rd baseman for the UCLA softball team. It was the greatest moment in my life. Second would be my career I have worked on some of the greatest movies to come out over the last five years. I have worked on the following movies Jack the Giant Slayer, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Star Trek into Darkness, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Solider, Guardians of The Galaxy, and now The Jungle Book. Every movie feels like a new a season and a tremendous experience.

Rubio Long Snapper Quentin Skinner Gets Offer AT 13 years old!

Skinner, QuentinYup, you read that correctly….Rubio Long Snapper Quentin “Mad Dog” Skinner got his first full ride scholarship AT 13 YEARS OLD! Mad Dog (once you meet him, you will really understand the nickname) confirmed with me this morning. He is going into the 8th grade and he has picked up a full scholarship offer to Southern University in LA!

Mad Dog started attending Rubio Long Snapping Camps when he was in the 4th grade and has been a steady returner ever since. He averages .77 for a 15 yard snap, can bench press 280 lbs and squats 315 for a set of ten. His form is exceptional and he already passes the eye-ball test very quickly.

He is the real deal in every aspect and looks to destroy all Rubio Long Snapping records (Christian Yount of the Cleveland Browns, at one point, was the earliest to get offered when Boston College offered him his junior year. That record was broken by Blake Ferguson who was offered by LSU at the end of his sophomore year). Good luck breaking Mad Dogs record.

Here is some video of Mad Dog snapping at the FBU TOP GUN Camp this past weekend where he was selected to play in the Eastbay All- Star Game!

FYI: If you are keeping track, Coach Marty Biagi offered two Rubio Long Snappers (David Michael Carrell and Quentin Skinner) on the same day! The guy is obviously well ahead of his time.

Rubio Long Snapping and Eating Contests, Huh?

Rubio Long Snapping alum Christian Yount has had an interesting career. He was the top rated high school Long Snapper in the country. He played for UCLA .He was signed by the Tampa Bay Bucs after being undrafted in 2011. There are stories he even has challenged eating phenomenon Takeru Kobayashi to a food eating contest.

His current endeavor is being the Long Snapper for the Cleveland Browns. He was signed by Cleveland in late November of 2011. Yount solidified himself as a Dawg Pound favorite in Cleveland after executing a nice forearm block on Ray Lewis of the team’s hated rival Baltimore Ravens in the 2012 season.

The 2012 season resulted in 2 assists on tackles and two solo tackles. He seems to have found a home in Buckeye Country. This warm weather guy seems to be performing well in frigid Ohio.

The 2013 season looks promising for the young Browns and Yount as they mature in a very tough NFL division. We’ll keep you posted on this Rubio Long Snapping grad as he continues to progress.

We’ll also let you know if Kobayashi ever responds to his eating challenge!

Long time Rubio Long Snapper Christian Yount has signed an exclusive rights tender with the Cleveland Browns!

Translation: the Browns REALLY like Christian and are locking him in before his contract expires next year. Think of it as buying your lady a pre-engagement, engagement ring:)

As you know, hopefully, Christian has been with Rubio Long Snapping since 2004. He was the first Long Snapper ever to be offered a scholarship his JUNIOR year in high school and he is the only Playboy All-American ever chosen….two times, too!

Congratulations to Christian Yount….and the Browns!

So, if a K/P gets All-Pro, their Long Snapper automatically does as well, right?

The NFL recently announced it’s All-Pro team for the 2012 season. On this list, there is every player listed EXCEPT Long Snapper. Obviously, this is an outrage but I have a solution.

Long time Rubio Long Snapper Justin Drescher of the New Orleans Saints had his punter picked…therefore, Drescher is automatically in. Done.

Long time Rubio Long Snapper Christian Yount of the Cleveland Browns had his kicker picked…therefore, Yount is automatically in. Done.

Glad I solved that problem. I am off to work on this whole fiscal cliff issue:)

Rubio Long Snappers Face Off in the NFL

Two former #1 Rubio Long Snappers, Christian Yount (2006) and Aaron Brewer (2008),  will face each other today when the Cleveland Browns travel to the Denver Broncos.

Both of these men are terrific people and obviously exquisite Long Snappers. I am pulling for a 0-0 tie with a ton of punt snaps:)

Enjoy this video of Christian snapping below….

Guess where they both got noticed…..

Two Rubio Long Snappers Signed as Free Agents

The NFL lockout officially ended on Monday morning and two long time Rubio Long Snappers were picked up almost immediately! Congratulations go out to Corey Adams of Kansas St and Christian Yount of UCLA. I have known and trained both of them for over 6 years and I can tell you that you simply won’t find two better and more loyal guys. How highly do I think of these two fine young gentleman? Put it this way, they were on a very short list that were invited to my wedding.

Here is some background on both….

Corey Adams played his high school football at a very small school outside of Denver, CO called Lewis Palmer HS. He was the first player ever offered a scholarship from there to play football (side note: well done to Kansas St). He was a TOP 12 member and the number one Long Snapper in his graduating class (2007). He went his entire four years at Kansas St without a single bad snap. Corey has helped out at the January and May Vegas Events for the past four years and has always done a terrific job.

Fun Fact: It was actually a little tricky making Corey’s high school highlight tape as his punter was too scared to catch his fast snaps. The punter was often caught on tape backing up to 18 yards or simply dropping them.

Check out this newscast of Corey in high school and look for a great cameo in it!

Christian Yount played his high school football at Tesoro HS in Coto de Caza, CA. He started snapping simply to get a spot on the bus (double side note: nice life changing decision). He was a TOP 12 member and the number one Long Snapper in his graduating class (2006). He was the first Long Snapper to ever be offered a full scholarship his junior year in high school. He grayshirted at UCLA and was a two time Playboy All-American (triple side note: he was also the first winner of the award).
Fun Fact: Christian once had a football coach tell him that Long Snapping was a bad idea, he was wasting his time and they don’t give out scholarships for just that position. That guy was obviously like Nostradamus as Christian was the only one on his HS team to receive a full ride and he seems to have done pretty well for himself.

Best of luck to these two and I look forward to writing many more of these blogs about future Rubio Long Snappers headed to the NFL….will the next one be about you?
