The Idaho Experience – Others Things to Do While in Town

Ok, so you are heading to Idaho (most likely for the first time for either the Rising Seniors Camp, The TOP 12 Camp or The Rising Stars Super Showcase) and you want to know what else there is to do in and around Lewiston. I would be doing the same sort of research, so I did a lot of it for you. You can always check out the fantastic tourism board as well here.

Palouse Falls, WA – 60 miles away (remember, you are in a rural area so you will see seven cars on that drive) and one of the most beautiful things you will see in your life.

Coeur d’Alene, ID. – 74 miles away. Very cute downtown and the CDA (Coeur d’Alene) Resort is world renowned for it’s views and golf course (it has a floating green that you boat to!).

McCall, Idaho – 109 miles away and gorgeous. Basically halfway between Lewiston and Boise. Gorgeous drive along the Salmon River. Big lake and a cute little town.

Dworshak Dam in Orofino – 35 miles away. Beautiful drive along the Clearwater River. Not much to do in Orofino besides check out their schools mascot (Maniacs, not kidding).

Washington State University – 27 miles away. Great chance to see a Division 1 campus. Pullman, WA. has some decent spots to eat as well. It is only about six miles from University of Idaho so you could easily kill two birds with one stone.

University of Idaho – 25 miles away. Great chance to see an FBS school and it is only about 6 miles from WSU. Two completely different campuses. Gambinos is a good pizza place in Moscow, ID …say Mosco, not MosCOW…they get pissed :). FYI: that cut in half beer can turned upside down is the Kibbie Dome, where they play football.

Harrison, Idaho – 76 miles away and a gorgeous drive through lots and lots of trees. Small lake town with one of my favorite places in the world, One Shot Charlies. Great restaurant and bar. Gorgeous views and the world famous Creamery. By boat, you are now 30 minutes from Coeur d’Alene or 60 minutes by car.

Southway Pizzeria – One of my favorite pizza places in the world.

Fazzari’s Pizza – Big battle in town over if Southway or Fazzari’s is better (I think it’s Southway) pizza. Fazzari’s is thinner and less gooey, Southway is all over your face and I am so in for that type of pizza (better sauce as well).

Bravas Restaurant – Good sit down place with a wide array of quality food. More upscale for Lewiston, ID.

Bojacks Broiler Pit – Hole in the wall restaurant that serves a lot of food. You will not leave hungry

The Mystic Cafe – Coffee place with a bakery and a solid restaurant that is more upscale for Lewiston.

Waffles N More – downtown Lewiston. Hole in wall breakfast place that is usually crowded because of big portions and great food!

Clearwater River Casino, Lewiston – 6 miles. Your standard Native American casino with a sports bar that has a massive tv.

Wineries – There are several wineries in around Lewiston but the one I hear the most good things about is Rivaura. If you are REALLY into wine, you should definitely go check out Walla Walla, WA (70 miles away)

10 Tips for College Camps

Headed to a college camp this summer? Here’s ten great tips to help you out…..

1. Dress accordingly, roll up with a Rubio Long Snapping shirt on so they know what you are all about and that you have a great background in Long Snapping. Earned a TOP 12 shirt, even better.

2. Be prepared to answer basic questions regarding your name, height, weight, school, GPA, test scores, where you live, etc. Speak clearly and slow down. Remember, everyone might now have your same accent

3. Look each coach directly in their eyes and shake their hands firmly. Nervous about speaking to someone, look at their forehead or right above their eyes and it will be close enough. Breathe

4. Drink a ton of water and make sure you are continuously stretching. You don’t want to cramp up and you don’t know when they might pull you to the side to do something different.

5. Do NOT over-snap. If you get thrown to another field to “just go and snap” be sure to take long pauses. You bodies are not meant to snap hundreds of balls in one day. Once your form is gone, your snaps will be negatively impacted.

6. Be friendly to everyone (should be a no-brainer) while on campus. You never know who is talking to you or who is watching you. CAMERAS ARE EVERYWHERE

7. Never, and I mean NEVER, lose your composure over a bad snap. Your recruiting will not end over one bad snap but it might over one bad reaction.

8. SNAP WITH CONFIDENCE and believe in yourself. You’ve snapped a thousand balls in your life, these will be no different. You are still just an upside quarterback going the wrong way Snapping some leather backwards. It’s not rocket science.

9. Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT do too many camps in June. NEVER go back to back days and try to limit yourself to no more than FOUR camps in the month. Your body won’t be able to handle it and your performances will be impacted. One bad camp can spread quickly amongst coaches

10. Thank your parents/guardians for spending the money to take you to these camps. Big hugs to them (after you shower). Be nice and, of course, never be the first to let go from the hug #RubioFamily#TheFactory #TeamRubio

VEGAS NATIONAL EVENTS

VEGAS XXV Finals

As you know, the Vegas Events are the biggest and best Long Snapping camps in the world. They are truly a national event to see how you compete against the best in the nation, and world. The May Event, or VEGAS XXVIII, is the second largest Long Snapping camp we run (VEGAS XXVII in January was the biggest). The main difference is the weather and there are less seniors since many have already stepped onto their college campuses for their next stage of their life.

The Vegas Events are NOT an invite only camp. They are first come, first served. Long Snappers ranging from 8th grade – JC are allowed to attend.

This is the SUPER BOWL for Long Snappers. No other Long Snapping event comes close to the exposure offered by the Vegas Events. Rubio Long Snapping is, by far, the most credible recruiting source for Long Snappers in the country.  The “TOP 12” and “EVENT ELITE” is the list to be on if you are seeking national exposure. NFL FREE AGENT CAMP

291116_2368646975707_1857804060_o

You (the specialists) asked for it, you got it. They (NFL coaches) asked for it, they got it. As you know, Chris Sailer and myself have always run the biggest and best exposure camps for high school Long Snappers and kickers.  For the second year, we are moving into the NFL realm to give the needed exposure to our college athletes.

This one day camp will be a showcase for NFL coaches. There will be little coaching (you shouldn’t need a ton if you are at this camp) as this camp will all be about exposure. NFL coaches and personnel will be on hand to personally see the Long Snappers in action.

In order to attend this camp, you must be out of college and be eligible for the NFL draft.

  • March 17, Las Vegas, NV

You can register for the NFL Free Agent camp HERE (spots will be limited)

COLLEGE LEVEL CAMP

This camp will be ONLY for 4 year university college Long Snappers AND Long Snappers entering into a 4 year university. 1st year JC and freshman, sophomores and juniors in high school can NOT attend this camp.

This will be a very high level camp that will be run similarly to the TOP 12 and EVENT ELITE camp. Cost of the camp will include accommodations, transportation to the fields and the instruction, and meals. This camp is built for Long Snappers looking to dominate the college camp and get ready for the NFL.

  • July 15-17, IMG Academy, FL

TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE CAMP

Top 12

This camp is open ONLY to those invited personally by Rubio. You are chosen to attend this camp by performing extremely well at either the January or May National Snapping Events in Las Vegas. Do NOT sign up for this camp unless you have been formally invited by  Rubio. Former “TOP 12” and “EVENT ELITE” members includes countless college and NFL players, All-Americans, NFL Pro Bowlers and Super Bowl participants.

Some Long Snapping “TOP 12” Alumni: Christian Yount (Cleveland Browns), Justin Drescher (New Orleans Saints), Aaron Brewer (Denver Broncos), Jon Weeks (Houston Texans) to name a few.

The “TOP 12” is chosen after the January Event (VEGAS XXVII) and the “EVENT ELITE” is chosen after the spring Event (VEGAS XXVIII). There are obviously 12 chosen for the “TOP 12” and there is no set number for the “EVENT ELITE”. Those that deserve it and are top of their class in May, get chosen…it could be one, it could be 20.

The success rate of those we have chosen have been selected in the past that go on to play college football (most on scholarship) is over 95%.

  • July 18-20, IMG Academy, FL

Invites go out after each Vegas Event.

UNDERCLASSMEN INVITATIONAL

You will almost think of this INVITATIONAL as a baby TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp. This two day camp that Rubio Long Snapping puts on will be completely gearing towards the athletes and their parents/guardians. This camp is meant to not only get the athletes headed in the right direction in the beginning of their high school careers, but also their parents. It will provide information regarding nutrition, social media, recruiting, film, education and, of course, on field instruction. This event is just as much for the parents/guardians as it is the athletes!

College recruiting for Long Snappers is finally getting where it needs to be. Scholarships are being offered earlier and earlier each year. Early exposure is necessary these days. The Rubio Long Snapping Underclassmen “Invite Only” Event is the perfect opportunity to make a name for yourself and solidify your national ranking at the perfect time. The middle of the summer is now the time college coaches build their underclassmen lists. You want to be on that list. This camp will get you there. It is also your first opportunity to prove that you are a “TOP 12” candidate in your class. The camp is set in July for a reason, college coaches asked us to do this. They want the inside track early. Don’t be surprised to see more and more underclassmen offered during the season in the near future.

There will be formal meetings/classroom sessions on individual topics such as: Training (what level is right for the underclassmen athlete, how often, proper techniques), Nutrition and Lifting (Good habits, bad habits), Social Media (Setting up and using the proper social media outlets – this has become a must), Filming (proper angles, techniques, times, set up), Education (the importance of it, standards, year by year plan)

  • July 21-22, IMG Academy, FL

Invites go out in May.

On May 4-5, 2013 well over 100 Long Snappers from around the globe came out to Las Vegas to participate in the 11th Annual National Snapping Spring Event in Las Vegas sponsored by Nike. The talent was excellent and so were the conditions. The staff was overflowing with one staff member per three Long Snappers so everyone was able to get the full experience throughout the weekend. Day one of the Event was all about instruction and many Long Snappers stood out immediately to make a name for themselves.

After it was all said and done, the winner of the camp was CJ Keller (2014, AZ). CJ handles pressure as well as anyone in the country, was snapping bullets all day and is very, very accurate and consistent. Kid is a machine and outlasted the rest of the competitors to take home the title!
