Where Are They Now? Rubio Long Snapper Jeff Palmer

For the next installment of “Where Are They Now?” we head to Southern California to hear from Rubio Long Snapper Jeff Palmer. Palmer played his high school football in Orange County then made his way to the Oregon Ducks where he still holds the record for most field goal snaps in a career. Oh, did I mention he is about 5’10” and 190 (dripping wet and holding barbells)

Check out what has been going on with Rubio Long Snapper Jeff Palmer…

1.  What is your current occupation?

I have been an Account Executive for MetLife for a little over two years, selling employee benefits through brokers to companies with 10 to 5,000 employees.

2. Where do you live?

I am in the process of moving from San Francisco to San Diego, currently living in Dana Point, CA.

3. Married/ Kids? Single. No kids

4. What is your fondest memory of your time playing college football? Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 4.48.33 PM

My fondest memory of my entire time at Oregon was running on the field the second the clock hit 0 at the 2012 Rose Bowl. We had lost our two previous bowl games, and the guys that were still on the team for the Rose Bowl had a huge weight lifted off of our shoulders when we won that game. It was the culmination of a pretty special season for us.

5. If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snappers, what would it be?

Obviously work hard on the football side of things, but work even harder on the academic side and get involved with any networking opportunities that your school offers you. You never know what types of opportunities may come your way after your playing career is over, and the vast majority of guys will be done playing for good when your college eligibility is up.

6. If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snapping PARENTS, what would it be?

Always be positive. Your son is getting the opportunity to do what millions of kids only dream of doing- running on to the field on Saturdays for a college football game. You can’t take everything so seriously. I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, so just sit back and enjoy watching your son have fun and grow up.

7. When was the last time you snapped a ball and for what reason?

I snap at least one ball a day down the hallway in my apartment just so I can tell myself- “still got it.” A lot of my brokers and coworkers ask me to snap a ball to them once they find out I played football as well.

 8.   If you could go back and play football in college again, would you go to the same school or a different one? Why?

No doubt in my mind I would go to Oregon again. Everyone hears about Nike, the uniforms, the facilities, and the flashy offense, but what a lot of people don’t know is how well the Athletic Department sets its student-athletes up for success after their time runs out. There were countless networking and mentoring events to attend during our time there, which allowed me to develop relationships with people I otherwise would have never had the chance to meet.

 9. Any regrets during college? Something you wish you had done or maybe hadn’t?

I actually wish I did not try to graduate as quickly as I did. I should have stayed in Eugene as long as possible because yes, being out in the real world is fun, but it comes with a lot more responsibility than you realize when you are still in school.

I wish I didn’t have a girlfriend my senior year…what an idiot.

10.   What tremendous thing have you been a part of or experienced since you graduated? 3a549d2

I got to spend some time in Colorado working for Wounded Warriors right after I graduated. We spent time at Air Force Academy as well as the Olympic Training Facilities, but it was so rewarding helping the veterans and hearing their stories and about the daily struggles since returning home. It really put things into perspective for me.

VEGAS CONTEST!!!

Screen Shot 2015-08-31 at 11.27.39 AMEvery single year, Rubio Long Snapping offers up a FREE Vegas admission through some sort of contest. This year is no different.

Rubio Long Snappers Nolan and Jordan Frese recently had their grandfather, Hank, pass away. Hank was a former Marine and always present at Rubio Long Snapping Vegas Camps. He was an absolute stud and there are some great stories of him at the camps.

Here is a little about Hank….

Hank was a former Marine and high school football coach. He played football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, as a halfback, on full scholarship. He had two grandsons play Texas HS football and go on to long snap at the next level (there’s an 8 yr old grandson we’re working on). He also has two granddaughters – Mikayla (21) & Marlena (18) – who are very gifted musically and have their own band – The Nesting Dolls. http://thenestingdolls.com/ .  “Papa Hank”  attended every snapping camp and concert he could possibly make.

vkzoqtcQUuPEWhog9vrQ_urkelSo, the Frese family would like to honor Hank by creating a snapping scholarship to VEGAS. A Long Snapper, 7th grade to JC, will have to create a video (no longer than one minute in length) that incorporates snapping, their grandparent (if you don’t have one, find one) and the song HERE. Now, once you hear the song “Papa With His Pants on High“, you will understand that either the Long Snapper or the grandparent MUST be in high pants. Also, the song must be heard while the film is going. The funner it is, the better it is.

The Frese family will do all of the judging. All entries must be in by October 10th and must be emailed to Rubio@RubioLongSnapping.com. The footage must be presented on YouTube with the title: Rubio Long Snapping Vegas Contest for Hank!

The winner will be announced on Thursday, October 15th!

Enjoy and I can’t wait to see these videos! Best of luck to all the Long Snappers!

Consider Which Parent to Take With You On Trips

Yup, you read that correctly. An athlete should be very careful when going on an official (school pays for the trip and you only get five of them) or an unofficial (athlete/parents pay for the trip and you can take as many as you’d like) visit when deciding who goes with them.

Let me break it down for you….

If you are going to a school as a football recruit and aren’t exactly ideal size, you might want to leave your 5 foot tall mother at home. The mom’s height will spook the coach since they will think “Oh man, this kid is done growing.

On the other hand, if you are undersized and your dad is a giant, definitely bring him since the coach would think “Ok, kid doesn’t pass the eyeball test right now, but he has the same genes so he will get there in some time

Remember, coaches will already know what you can do through my rankings and by speaking with me. But, they will like to see how you pass the eyeball test, so don’t give them negatives to think about when recruiting you.

5 Things I Learned From My Travels

As you know, I travel a ton and during the summer, my flights really pick up. Yet again, I hit over 55 flights again in June and July alone. Needless to say, when anyone moves around that much, you will see many “interesting” things and have the ability to learn a great deal about traveling….and life.

Here are the five things I learned from my travels:

  1. OPEN YOUR EYES!
You would be shocked at how many people don’t see what is right in front of them. Given, much of the time it is due to cell phones swallowing their brains, but many just look down at the path literally right in front of them instead of having their head up to see other, possibly more intriguing avenues of life. Open your eyes, look up and see the world.
  2. USE YOUR HEAD!
It seems that everyone has become extremely lazy and not willing to do one minute of work to find an answer. I can’t tell you how many times I saw people ask simple questions instead of taking one second to figure out the problem for themselves (where is the baggage claim?…..um, there is a forty foot sign right in front of you that says where). This simply has to stop or the next generation won’t know how to figure anything out. (You would be shocked at how many times per week I respond to an email, text, tweet, message, etc. with the “All information is on RubioLongSnapping.com
  3. BE APPRECIATIVE!
In life, whether traveling or not, you will see many people that are working and busting their butt at their jobs. Many of these jobs are not easy and take a lot out of the person doing said job. Be appreciative of them and what they are doing, especially if they are doing something for you. Simply saying “Thank you” can make someone’s day and make yours a lot better as well. Try it and see what happens.
  4. HUSTLE!
Move forward. Keep moving. Don’t be stagnant. People are behind you. You stop, they have to stop. The world stops. This is not good. The slower you go, the slower everyone has to go. If you are in public and you know people are around you, get a move on and don’t slow down the process of life.
  5. RELAX!
When you finally get the chance to relax, do it. Sit in a chair, lay down in a bed. Put on some music, lift your feet up. Recharge your batteries. You will be better off for it in the long run. If you don’t take some time to relax, you will be no good to anyone after awhile.

Following these five steps will, hopefully, help you out when traveling and in life.

Why Jake Munoz Being Offered a Scholarship is Such a BIG Deal

Jake Munoz

Jake Munoz

Earlier today, I posted on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin that Rubio Long Snapper Jake Munoz (GA, ’16) had been offered a full scholarship to Georgia St.

You may have glanced at this for a moment and just thought, oh, just another Rubio Long Snapper headed to college. If you did that, you shouldn’t have and here is why.

For those of that don’t know, Munoz has Retinal Cone Dystophy (an inherited ocular disorder characterized by the loss of cone cells, the photoreceptors responsible for both central and color vision). In layman’s terms, Munoz sees, at all times, like a “normal” person does right when they come out of a noon movie into extremely bright sunshine outside. You know what I am talking about? Been in the dark for a couple hours, you walk out of the movie and the outside world is the brightest thing on the planet. It basically hurts your eyes, you immediately squint and your vision is VERY limited.

That is Jake Munoz’s life AT ALL TIMES and he just earned a full scholarship to be a Long Snapper in college. What an absolute stud and I am extremely proud of how far he has come in the past couple of years with Rubio Long Snapping.

Congratulations to Munoz and his whole family on this incredible accomplishment.

UPDATE: Jake has committed to Georgia State!

Where Are They Now?

Bill Geiser, father of Rubio Long Snapper Jack Geiser (2006, Boston College, Full Scholarship) sent me an email with a great idea. Here is the meat of the email…

The fact is most of the young men you coach will never make it to the NFL. But many, if not most, will graduate and move on to lead very productive careers/lives. This is what parents *really* want for their kids. Knowing this and understanding that what you and Sailer teach goes far beyond technical snapping and kicking skills may be another promotional opportunity for you. The two of you are teaching these kids a lot more than how to snap or kick a ball – you are teaching ‘life lessons’ that will carry all of them far for the rest of their lives. In this regard, I thought a periodic ‘where are they now’ post which talks about what the career accomplishments your graduates have achieved might be a powerful message to deliver to your new, prospective students and….more importantly…to their parents

He is right and I am going to run with this idea. Expect approximately one of these new blogs per month featuring a Rubio Long Snapper of the past.

If you remember, I have done something like this in the past with Rubio Long Snapper Tyler Schmitt and what he is doing now with his life. If you didn’t see it, check THIS out and prepare to be amazed.

Articles & Rankings for the Class of 2017 Long Snappers Post VEGAS XXVI

The rankings are completed for the 2017 Long Snappers that participated at VEGAS XXVI!

Long Snappers in this class came out from over twenty states to get the best instruction and most exposure for Long Snappers in the country.

Be sure to check out all of the photos on the Rubio Long Snapping Facebook page HERE

TOP 2017 LONG SNAPPERS:

  • Thomas Fletcher left no doubt at all that he is the best 2017 Long Snapper in the country. Handles pressure as well as anyone I have ever had and has zero wasted movement. He could snap in college right now and he is only heading into his junior year.
  • Mitch Hall was excellent all weekend and he is beginning to start with a lot of confidence. Incredible form.
  • Nate Durham shows great power and speed on the ball.
  • Austin Reeves is a Long Snapper that could take the top spot within the year. Silent, but deadly.
  • Shiloh Mast is really let the ball fly. Size will be key for him.
  • Joe Calcagno is on the cusp of absolute dominance. Watch him closely over the next year.
  • Jake Pagel is strong and consistent. Watch him.
  • Matthew Smith is a flat out stud. Lots of potential.
  • Koltin Anderson is a very strong Long Snapper with tons of raw power.
  • Ryan Culbertson never disappoints and can snap at the next level.
  • Kyle O’Connor might be one of the most accurate Long Snappers in his class.
  • Kyle Gibbs was very impressive. He is very raw and could be one of the greats.
  • Devin Noth has all of the tools to be one of the best ever.
  • Jake Hess is coming along nicely and headed in the right direction. Consistency of speed will be key.

Notables: Kobe Paez, Paul Lawless, Noah Rodriguez-Trammel, Chris Clore, Matt Baldeck, Gabe Hantz, Colin Scott, Dylan Castro, Jacob Potter

IMG_0629.JPGKEY POINTS:

  • My rankings are NOT done just from The Rubio Target
  • My rankings are NOT done from some mathematical formula.
  • My rankings ARE done by me and only me. That is why they take a good amount of time. (Think of it this way, it takes MONTHS to build a Rolls Royce but only hours to build an average car)
  • My rankings are based off of this blog I wrote about what makes a Long Snapper great.
  • If you would like anything added to your profile page, simply email me (Rubio@RubioLongSnapping.com) the information and consider it done.
  • All Long Snappers are ranked after their first fall camp of their freshman year in high school.

A Long Snapper has the ability to adjust their ranking anytime I see them LIVE, not on video.

Article & Rankings from the Rubio Long Snapping Spring Camp in CA

The rankings are completed for ALL Long Snappers that participated in the Rubio Long Snapping Spring Camp in CA!

Long Snappers came out from CA, NV, AZ, WY, WA, UT and CO to get the best instruction and most exposure for Long Snappers in the country.

Next ranking opportunity will be at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in TX on March 15th.

Hoffman, Harrison

Harrison Hoffman

The overall winner of the camp was Harrison Hoffman. Harrison is headed to the Air Force Academy and will do great there. He is a smooth Long Snapper with a frame that will easily be able to pack on the pounds in the coming years. Great kid and always learning

TOP 2015 LONG SNAPPERS

  • Jordan Ober snaps so the ball is crisp, tight and moves quickly back to the punter. I would love to see him lower his butt just a tad to get even more speed on the ball. That’s a very simple fix that can be adjusted in less than a week. I also love his attitude.
  • Cody Block is one of the most athletic Long Snappers in his class. He moves very well on his feet, no matter what he is doing. His hands are extremely quick. He gets the ball out of the gate as well as anyone else in the country. I would love to see him focus on getting fully set and making sure he is going back instead of just straight up. This will increase the speed of the ball and keep him in the low .7s to even .6s over the course of a day.
  • Jonathan Goldstein is built long and his form has really progressed over the years. He has a frame that can put up some very good weight over the next year. Goldstein uses his whole body really well and he can snap the ball in the .6s at times on punts. He needs to make sure his consistency with that speed is locked down and that he is getting the same release point with all of his snaps. This kid can really snap. Watch him.
  • Peter Comaroto‘s form is excellent and he is always improving. Getting his footwork down and continuing to build his body will help in the long run. It is fun to watch this kid snap. UMASS is lucky to have him in the fall.
  • Richard Wilcox is fantastic when loose. The less thinking he does, the better he is. I love when he drives his elbows and creates some good whip and speed on the ball. He is built thick so he will have to really make sure he stays loose and doesn’t become too bulky which will slow the ball down. He has a great attitude.
  • Matt Foley is snapping the ball with confidence and is sure of himself. He looked good. I REALLY just need to see him focus on one snap and let it fly out of his hands full speed. Once he does that, I want it EVERY SINGLE TIME. He is as close as possible to a 5 Star Rubio Long Snapper. This kid is good.

Notables: Scott Stevens, Jack Dixon, JT Bale

TOP 2016 LONG SNAPPERS

  • Johnny Den Bleyker was smooth, strong and fast. Den Bleyker has it all right now. The bigger he gets, the better he will be. Love when he gets fully set. Very dominant at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. UCLA got a good one.
  • Damon Johnson had a great day at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. Gets in a groove and is very dominant. His misses are becoming less and less frequent. Big thing for him is to just snap the ball as hard as he can at all times. Kid is flat out good and he will make a college coach very happy in the next couple of years.
  • Conner Kirkegaard had a much better day at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. When he lets the ball just fly out of his hands, he is exceptional. Controlling his release point will be huge for him gaining accuracy. Speed is right on target. WORK HORSE.
  • Koby Walsh had another great day at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. He is right in the mix with all of the great ones in his class. Now, he needs to lock down the consistency and take it to the next level. Show me he can win a camp and separate himself from those above him. Moves really well on his feet. Body is coming along nicely. I will be testing his blocking and movement a ton at VEGAS XXVI.
  • Jake Cesear – Simple: he gets to about 210 lbs and he will have a scholarship. Reminds me a lot of Rubio Long Snappers Aaron Brewer (Denver Broncos) and Chase Dominguez (Utah). TONS of upside. Kid is almost ready for a scholarship now. SMOOOOOOOOTH.
  • James Workman had another big jump in the rankings and well deserved. Workman is really locking down his consistency and is headed towards one of the greats in his class. The harder he snaps, the better he will be. Lowering his butt will help a bit to gain more speed and power. Kid is filled with potential. Watch him closely at VEGAS XXVI. EVENT ELITE?
  • Donald Reiter is coming along nicely and had a good day at the Rubio Long Snapping camp in CA. Needs to really focus on being as quick as possible going back instead of gradually going up. Very good attitude.

Notables: Jack Haney, Curtis Hernandez, Jacob Mimoun,  Jack Munsey, Andrew Tomlinson, Jared Enrico, Blake Gifford, Fletcher Dilley

TOP 2017 LONG SNAPPERS

  • Thomas Fletcher is just flat out good. Really good. If I was a college coach, I would be looking at this kid VERY, VERY closely right now. The bigger he gets, the better he will be. Just trust me on this, watch him. It would not surprise me to see him win VEGAS XXVI.
  • Koltin Anderson did really well at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. He is snapping the ball with confidence and good power. Like to see him continue to work on eliminating the hitch while still snapping full power. Strong bodied. Great attitude.
  • Alex Michaelsen is snapping the ball with good power and strength. Needs to make sure he is not over-gripping the ball so he keeps his spiral on lock down. Keeping his back flat will help with overall speed and power. VERY good potential and definitely one to watch.
  • Devin Noth of Colorado did well. Plain and simple, the bigger Noth gets, the better he will be. Kid has very good form and is snapping the ball well. He is snapping the ball with very good power and accuracy. Kid is flat out good. Keep a very close eye on him over the next two years and beyond.

Notables: Joey Tanaka, Noah Rodriguez-Trammell, Caleb Laver

TOP 2018 LONG SNAPPERS & FUTURE STARS

  • Ross Reiter left no doubt he was the best in his class and it wasn’t even close. Kid is strong, has a great attitude and snaps with power.
  • Brendan Bentley showed QUICK improvement in a very short amount of time. Body is strong and his form is good. Loved what I saw at the Rubio Long Snapping spring camp in CA. Snaps the ball with good power. Like to see him sit down a bit more and make sure he is leaning back. VERY good potential and you should really keep a close eye on him.
  • Simon Samarzich continues to just plug along and dominate his age group in CA. VEGAS XXVI will be big to prove he is dominant at the national level. Wouldn’t put money against him showing up and snapping bullets.

Happy Ranksgiving to the Class of 2017 Long Snappers

VEGAS XXV FinalsThe rankings are completed for ALL 2017 Long Snappers that participated in the Rubio Long Snapping National Event: VEGAS XXV!

Approximately 300 Long Snappers came in from nearly every state in the country and even Canada to learn from the best and get the most exposure possible for Long Snappers. This was what you call a true national event to see how you really compare against the best in the world. As I stated before, there is nothing like Vegas and this one definitely did not disappoint. Testimonials are coming in non-stop regarding the weekend.  With the addition of an agility and tackling station, athleticism really played a role in the rankings.

Next ranking opportunity will be at any Rubio Long Snapping spring and summer camp.

This group was simply amazing with the level of talent they brought out to the field on both days. I could make this post 20 pages long talking about each and every one of them. Here are the best of the best….

  • Thomas Fletcher: Fletcher is the first sophomore to win a VEGAS event.  He was absolute nails under pressure and acted as if it was just a given that he would win the whole thing from the start….love that. His form is very good (could move his butt down just a tad) and he uses his whole body really well. This kid is flat out very good for his age and is almost ready for college now.
  • Mitch Hall: He is snapping with some confidence and the more of that he snaps with, the better he will be in the long run.  Hall has VERY good starting form. The more he trusts it, the higher he goes in the rankings.  Athletically, he moved pretty darn well.  He moved quickly and got up quickly through the agility and tackling station. I love this kid’s attitude. You should keep a very close eye on him.
  • Nate Durham: It looks like there is going to be a severe battle for the top spot in the coming months for the class of 2017.  Durham could easily take the lead. His form is VERY good and he is snapping the ball with good speed. He needs to make sure his eyes are getting all the way through for more speed, accuracy and consistency.  Athletically, he moves well for his size but needs to be able to control his body a bit more when moving forward and laterally over the bags. He has TONS of potential. He should be seriously thinking about EVENT ELITE at VEGAS XXVI.
  • Jeremiah Riordan:  Riordan is really moving forward and he is doing it quickly.  I loved what I saw at VEGAS XXV.   This kid has very good size for his age and solid form.  He is using his whole body really well and snaps with power.  I would love to see him have no hiccups with his eyes/head as he drives them through his legs.  That will help with accuracy, consistency and speed.  Athletically, he moved fast and tackled well. Being a little more agile will be something I will be looking for at VEGAS XXVI. Very good upside with this kid.
  • Jake Hess: He is snapping with very good confidence and really letting the ball fly out of his hands. One of the best parts about Hess is how coachable he is….you tell him to work on something, give him some time, you come back and it is done.  He will make a coach very happy in the coming years.  He is driving his head through well and snapping with good power.  Athletically, he needs to make sure he focuses on all aspects of the agility and tackling station or he will remain stuck at 4 stars for some time. He has a VERY good attitude.
  • Kasey Kelleher: This kid has wonderful form and is snapping a nice, crisp ball that has some very good pop on it. I would love to see him lean back a bit more to ensure more power and consistency.  Athletically, he moves well on his feet and has good control all around. Kelleher has tons of potential and could take the top spot at VEGAS XXVI.
  • Joe Calcagno: He is snapping with good form and he is using his body well. It is really simple for Calcagno….the harder he snaps, the better he does in all aspects of his snapping. Athletically, I want him to not be too timid and attack every movement.  This includes the tackling aspect of the agility and tackling drill. He has good potential.
  • Matthew Smith: He is very athletic and moved flawlessly through the agility and tackling section of VEGAS XXV.  I would love to see him lower his butt a bit more to really gain some speed on the ball.  Dropping two inches lower will get him to be consistently in the .7 second range. Smith’s form is very good and he is right on the cusp of greatness. I am telling you, keep a VERY close eye on this kid at VEGAS XXVI and beyond.
  • Devin Noth: He is built long and has a frame that will be able to put on some good weight in the coming years. His hands are like rockets and the ball jumps out of the gate.  So fast in fact, Noth is almost hard to time. He needs to really make sure he gets his eyes and head all the way through to be more accurate and consistent. Athletically, he might be the smoothest in all of his class. He dominated the agility and tackling station. You need to watch this kid VERY closely.  He made a massive jump in the rankings.
  • Trevor Dhabalt: He is one of those Long Snappers that shows waves of brilliance. Some snaps are exceptional and some need work. I would love to see him lift his release point a bit and really snap with full power at all times. When he tries to aim the ball, it dies and we don’t want that.  Dhabalt’s form is good and he needs to trust it. Athletically, he moves smooth and with purpose. Controlling his body will help at VEGAS XXVI.

Notables: John Davis, Jake Pagel, Jacob Rubenstein, Austin Reeves, Kyle O’Connor, Caleb Lawver, & Ryan Culbertson.

  • Ross Reiter was tremendous all weekend at VEGAS XXV. Very strong for his age and snaps the ball with good power. Love his attitude.
  • Kyle Petrucci He is built EXTREMELY long.  His has outstanding athleticism for his size. He moves with purpose and also tackled very well.  One to watch.
  • Roen McCullough He looks and snaps like someone three years older than he actually is.  Roen ept very good control of his body and tackled well at the agility and tackling station. He has TONS and TONS of potential.
  • Ryan Walsh His form is excellent and he is snapping with confidence. Ryan needs to make sure he locks down his spiral so the ball is smooth and easy to catch. Walsh has a good attitude and is always improving.
  • Joseph Ramos He is a solid Long Snapper with great size already for his age.  By VEGAS XXVI I want to see lighter and smoother moves on the agility and tackling station. He is a good kid with tons of potential.
  • Jerrett Key Key has a good frame for his age and snaps a solid ball. His snap is tight and shows good accuracy. He is a very good snapper for his age. He broke down and tackled very well at the agility section of the weekend.
  • John Raines He has exceptional form and snaps with a lot of power. Raines has very impressive speed for his age and tons of potential.  He listens well so he could shatter the charts. Keep a very close eye on him throughout high school.
  • Brendan Watson He is easily one of the most athletic Long Snappers in his class. He moved very well on his feet. His form is very good and he does a solid job of using his whole body throughout the snapping motion. Watch him this spring and at VEGAS XXVI.

FUTURE STARS

  • Quentin Skinner  He is easily the best middle school Long Snapper in the country. This kid is a monster.
  • JC Vega He has VERY good starting form and looks good snapping the ball. Keep a very close eye on this one. He could be tops of his class quickly.
  • Simon Samarzich He has very good form and is an excellent Long Snapper for his age.

Vegas XXV Average Snap Speeds

Here are the average snap speeds from VEGAS XXV in alphabetical order.

For the speed of the snap, the clock started as soon as the Long Snapper began the snapping motion and the clock stopped when the ball hit the target.  If the ball missed the target completely, the time was recorded as one second.  Each Long Snapper’s average was calculated from 12 various snaps on Sunday while using the Rubio Target as well as by Rubio.

ASK RUBIO – Redshirting in High School? Best Looking on 90210? Potential NFL Long Snappers? Liking Sailer?

Dear Rubio…

1) What are your thoughts about holding back/red shirting a high school student athlete for the sole purposes of giving them an edge athletically against their peers? 2) Also I need your 90210 expertise to settle an argument, Valerie right? (Tiffani Amber Thiessen)
JustStartingOut

-JustStartingOut….
Kelly-Kapowski-Pictures
It would depend on when you hold the athlete back. If it is done sooner in life, I feel that is better. When you get into the high school years, it could really mess with their demeanor as they will be losing a lot of friends at that point. Bottom line, if you are going to do it, do it EARLY.

As for the 90210 question (great one by the way), I have to go with Valerie (Tiffany Amber Theissen). How could I not after her dominant performance as Kelly Kapowski on the hit TV show Saved by the Bell!??!?!? The lady was one of my first crushes (as I have a feeling I speak for millions of other men my age as well that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s)

Dear Rubio….

You have explained to us how you are able to recognized college long snappers out of high schoolers, but what do you see in college snappers to be potential NFL Long snappers? Also, how can a snapper adjust to be a more appealing prospect?
-BGSU Long Snapper

Christian Yount

–BGSU Long Snapper….
There are a couple differences between a college Long Snapper and an NFL Long Snapper: Size (NFL Long Snappers usually are right around the 240+ range), Accuracy (an NFL Long Snapper might not always be the fastest Long Snapper you have ever seen but they should RARELY, and I mean RARELY miss….think two out of 100) and Blocking. The last point, blocking, is a massive aspect that kills a lot of guys chances at the next level because they either never did it in college (thank you spread formation) and can’t get used to it quickly by the pro day. The speed jump from high school to college is quadrupled from college to the NFL. Not being able to keep up with that jump is what kills hopes and dreams of a college Long Snapper trying to make the NFL.

At the Rubio Long Snapping College as well as the NFL Free Agent Camp, we will work on blocking a ton to make sure each Long Snapper is a more appealing prospect.

Dear Rubio….

Sailer and Rubio at UCLADid you like Sailer when you guys played together at UCLA?
-WonderingMomma

-WonderingMomma….
Yes, I actually did BECAUSE he never acted like a “kicker” 🙂 He would get back, do his little step thingy and kick the ball. IF he missed, he would never blame me (not that he could, I was throwing pearls back there) and just go to the next kick. He had very much a lineman attitude and, ironically, used to always hang out with me and the lineman.

Remember, if you would like to ASK RUBIO a question on any topic (honestly, it shouldn’t be on Long Snapping since you can find almost all questions answered on my blog and on RubioLongSnapping.com, just go ahead and send your question(s) to Rubio@RubioLongSnapping.com with the subject line: ASK RUBIO.
