VEGAS NATIONAL EVENTS

VEGAS XXV Finals

As you know, the Vegas Events are the biggest and best Long Snapping camps in the world. They are truly a national event to see how you compete against the best in the nation, and world. The May Event, or VEGAS XXVIII, is the second largest Long Snapping camp we run (VEGAS XXVII in January was the biggest). The main difference is the weather and there are less seniors since many have already stepped onto their college campuses for their next stage of their life.

The Vegas Events are NOT an invite only camp. They are first come, first served. Long Snappers ranging from 8th grade – JC are allowed to attend.

This is the SUPER BOWL for Long Snappers. No other Long Snapping event comes close to the exposure offered by the Vegas Events. Rubio Long Snapping is, by far, the most credible recruiting source for Long Snappers in the country.  The “TOP 12” and “EVENT ELITE” is the list to be on if you are seeking national exposure. From the Vegas Events, the Rubio Long Snapping Staff will select the “TOP 12” Seniors/JC & the “TOP 12” Underclassman and “Event Elite”. Over 90% of the “TOP 12” have received full ride D1A scholarships in the past. Over 99% members of the “TOP 12” have gone on to play college football. In addition the “TOP 12” Underclassman will be invited to attend an exclusive summer camp to train and compete amongst that elite group.  The Competition Finals Round Winners (FG, Punt, and LS) will receive FREE Rubio Long Snapping Camps for 1 FULL YEAR. (Excludes transportation and Hotel). The Vegas Events offer the best exposure possible for Long Snappers. Rubio Long Snapping has personal relationships with over 100 D1A Universities and many more at other levels. This is your chance to get recognized on a national scale. Rubio Long Snapping works very closely with Scout.com, Rivals.com, Espn.com, etc. and have also been featured in Sports Illustrated, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Deadspin, etc.

FBU CAMPS

Army All-Americans 2015

Once again, Rubio Long Snapping and Chris Sailer Kicking will be teaming up with FBU to run the specialists portion of their camps. FBU is the world’s largest football training service and has hired us to handle their Long Snapping section. It is an honor and we are proud to do it again. It is a top notch organization that benefits countless athletes across the country.

Rubio Long Snapping will be running more camps than EVER. This year I will only be at the TOP GUN CAMP.  All other locations will have two Rubio Long Snapping Senior Instructors in attendance (staff members that have been with me for well over 30 camps). They will follow the same format as myself and report directly to FBU and yours truly.

Rubio Long Snapping will be choosing the two Long Snappers that will participate in the US ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL at the FBU TOP GUN CAMP in South Carolina on July 14-15. Rubio Long Snapping will also be selecting the East Bay Youth All-American for the Class of 2019 (Freshman All-American Bowl) and 2020 (8th Grade All-American Bowl) at the FBU TOP GUN CAMP in South Carolina on July 14-15.

You MUST be invited to the TOP GUN camp by performing well at one of the regional camps prior to the TOP GUN Camp. Bottom line, you will have to do well at one of the camps, that our staff  is in attendance at, to pick up an invite from myself and/or one of my senior instructors.

NFL FREE AGENT CAMP

291116_2368646975707_1857804060_o

You (the specialists) asked for it, you got it. They (NFL coaches) asked for it, they got it. As you know, Chris Sailer and myself have always run the biggest and best exposure camps for high school Long Snappers and kickers.  For the second year, we are moving into the NFL realm to give the needed exposure to our college athletes.

This one day camp will be a showcase for NFL coaches. There will be little coaching (you shouldn’t need a ton if you are at this camp) as this camp will all be about exposure. NFL coaches and personnel will be on hand to personally see the Long Snappers in action.

In order to attend this camp, you must be out of college and be eligible for the NFL draft.

  • March 17, Las Vegas, NV

You can register for the NFL Free Agent camp HERE (spots will be limited)

COLLEGE LEVEL CAMP

This camp will be ONLY for 4 year university college Long Snappers AND Long Snappers entering into a 4 year university. 1st year JC and freshman, sophomores and juniors in high school can NOT attend this camp.

This will be a very high level camp that will be run similarly to the TOP 12 and EVENT ELITE camp. Cost of the camp will include accommodations, transportation to the fields and the instruction, and meals. This camp is built for Long Snappers looking to dominate the college camp and get ready for the NFL.

  • July 15-17, IMG Academy, FL

TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE CAMP

Top 12

This camp is open ONLY to those invited personally by Rubio. You are chosen to attend this camp by performing extremely well at either the January or May National Snapping Events in Las Vegas. Do NOT sign up for this camp unless you have been formally invited by  Rubio. Former “TOP 12” and “EVENT ELITE” members includes countless college and NFL players, All-Americans, NFL Pro Bowlers and Super Bowl participants.

Some Long Snapping “TOP 12” Alumni: Christian Yount (Cleveland Browns), Justin Drescher (New Orleans Saints), Aaron Brewer (Denver Broncos), Jon Weeks (Houston Texans) to name a few.

The “TOP 12” is chosen after the January Event (VEGAS XXVII) and the “EVENT ELITE” is chosen after the spring Event (VEGAS XXVIII). There are obviously 12 chosen for the “TOP 12” and there is no set number for the “EVENT ELITE”. Those that deserve it and are top of their class in May, get chosen…it could be one, it could be 20.

The success rate of those we have chosen have been selected in the past that go on to play college football (most on scholarship) is over 95%.

  • July 18-20, IMG Academy, FL

Invites go out after each Vegas Event.

UNDERCLASSMEN INVITATIONAL

You will almost think of this INVITATIONAL as a baby TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE Camp. This two day camp that Rubio Long Snapping puts on will be completely gearing towards the athletes and their parents/guardians. This camp is meant to not only get the athletes headed in the right direction in the beginning of their high school careers, but also their parents. It will provide information regarding nutrition, social media, recruiting, film, education and, of course, on field instruction. This event is just as much for the parents/guardians as it is the athletes!

College recruiting for Long Snappers is finally getting where it needs to be. Scholarships are being offered earlier and earlier each year. Early exposure is necessary these days. The Rubio Long Snapping Underclassmen “Invite Only” Event is the perfect opportunity to make a name for yourself and solidify your national ranking at the perfect time. The middle of the summer is now the time college coaches build their underclassmen lists. You want to be on that list. This camp will get you there. It is also your first opportunity to prove that you are a “TOP 12” candidate in your class. The camp is set in July for a reason, college coaches asked us to do this. They want the inside track early. Don’t be surprised to see more and more underclassmen offered during the season in the near future.

There will be formal meetings/classroom sessions on individual topics such as: Training (what level is right for the underclassmen athlete, how often, proper techniques), Nutrition and Lifting (Good habits, bad habits), Social Media (Setting up and using the proper social media outlets – this has become a must), Filming (proper angles, techniques, times, set up), Education (the importance of it, standards, year by year plan)

  • July 21-22, IMG Academy, FL

Invites go out in May.

CONTEST FOR A FREE VEGAS XXVIII

Long Snappers are obviously incredible athletes built with dashing good looks, but are they also creative and intelligent?Obvious answer is YES, but let’s see what we are dealing with throughout the world.

Every Vegas, I try to have a contest to give away a FREE admission to my Vegas Event. This year will be no different.

And, since I know my Long Snappers can tend to be a bit apprehensive about doing any extra work, I have created a contest with the least amount of work in the history of Rubio Long Snapping.

RUBIO LONG SNAPPING HAIKU CONTEST

WHO: Any Long Snapper ranging from 8th grade to second year of JC that would like a chance to earn a FREE admission to VEGAS XXVIII!

WHAT: You must create an original Haiku (s) that pertains to Long Snapping AND Vegas. For those of that don’t know, a Haiku is simply a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five. If you don’t know what a poem or a syllable is, bless your heart and start focusing more in school for the love of all that is holy.

Two examples of haikus would be…

Determination
Can make the impossible
Possible for all

A full day of fun
Lots of eating and resting
Football on the tube

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Be funny, be creative, don’t be bland. Stand out. Have fun with this “assignment”
  • You can enter ONLY one time, but can have a total of three haikus
  • Each haiku must be on the same page and must be hand-printed by the Long Snapper (if I can’t read it, it won’t get read). If you have one haiku, you will have just one page for me. If you have two haikus, you will have only one page for me. If you have three haikus, you will have only one page for me.
  • I will not accept faxed, emailed, scanned, texted or typed haikus
  • You must have them mailed to me (yes, in an envelope with a stamp on it) to…
    RUBIO
    1104 Richardson Ave.
    Lewiston, ID. 83501

WHEN: The entries must be in my mailbox by no later than March 16th, 2016. FYI: I do NOT live in a big city. Mail can take a looooong time to get to me. Plan ahead as I will NOT take any late entries.

WHERE: You must have them mailed to me (yes, in an envelope with a stamp on it) to…

RUBIO
1104 Richardson Ave.
Lewiston, ID. 83501

WHY: To earn a free admission to VEGAS XXVIII! The winner will be announced on March 21st, 2016 (early registration deadline). The winner will get their admission covered by me. The winner will still be responsible for travel and accommodations.

2016 Spring Camps

2057

The Winner of the VEGAS XXVII Contest

In August, I posted a contest sponsored by the Frese family in honor of their grandfather, Hank. Hank was a former Marine and always present at Rubio Long Snapping Vegas Camps. He was an absolute stud and there are some great stories of him at the camps.

The basics of the contest were as follows….

A Long Snapper, 7th grade to JC, will have to create a video (no longer than one minute in length) that incorporates snapping, their grandparent (if you don’t have one, find one) and the song HERE. Now, once you hear the song “Papa With His Pants on High”, you will understand that either the Long Snapper or the grandparent MUST be in high pants. Also, the song must be heard while the film is going. The funner it is, the better it is.

Several entries came in and the decision for the Frese family was so hard, they decided to offer three prizes! First place would receive a free admission to Vegas, while 2nd & 3rd place would receive a small group session! This is incredibly generous of them and I know the whole Rubio Long Snapping family thanks them.

Congratulations to GABE HANTZ on THIRD place!

Congratulations to ROSS ARROYO on SECOND place!

And, a big CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER OF THE CONTEST, CALVIN MAHER!!!

VEGAS CONTEST!!!

Screen Shot 2015-08-31 at 11.27.39 AMEvery single year, Rubio Long Snapping offers up a FREE Vegas admission through some sort of contest. This year is no different.

Rubio Long Snappers Nolan and Jordan Frese recently had their grandfather, Hank, pass away. Hank was a former Marine and always present at Rubio Long Snapping Vegas Camps. He was an absolute stud and there are some great stories of him at the camps.

Here is a little about Hank….

Hank was a former Marine and high school football coach. He played football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, as a halfback, on full scholarship. He had two grandsons play Texas HS football and go on to long snap at the next level (there’s an 8 yr old grandson we’re working on). He also has two granddaughters – Mikayla (21) & Marlena (18) – who are very gifted musically and have their own band – The Nesting Dolls. http://thenestingdolls.com/ .  “Papa Hank”  attended every snapping camp and concert he could possibly make.

vkzoqtcQUuPEWhog9vrQ_urkelSo, the Frese family would like to honor Hank by creating a snapping scholarship to VEGAS. A Long Snapper, 7th grade to JC, will have to create a video (no longer than one minute in length) that incorporates snapping, their grandparent (if you don’t have one, find one) and the song HERE. Now, once you hear the song “Papa With His Pants on High“, you will understand that either the Long Snapper or the grandparent MUST be in high pants. Also, the song must be heard while the film is going. The funner it is, the better it is.

The Frese family will do all of the judging. All entries must be in by October 10th and must be emailed to Rubio@RubioLongSnapping.com. The footage must be presented on YouTube with the title: Rubio Long Snapping Vegas Contest for Hank!

The winner will be announced on Thursday, October 15th!

Enjoy and I can’t wait to see these videos! Best of luck to all the Long Snappers!

10 Most Common Questions About VEGAS XXVII

IMG_0629.JPG

1. How do I get invited to VEGAS XXVII? You don’t! It is OPEN TO ALL LONG SNAPPERS. It is not an invite only camp. It is a first come, first served Event. You register and you are in.

2. How old do you have to be to attend VEGAS XXVII? 8th grader through second year of Junior College. I will allow younger if it is pre-approved through me.

3. Is VEGAS XXVII only for advanced Long Snappers? NO, it is open to all levels of Long Snappers. The early you go, the better you will be in the long run. Trust me, I have seen it countless times. Don’t be the guy who waits and then blows it because they were too nervous. Go early and get your butterflies knocked out sooner than later.

4. Will there be small group session this JanuaryYes! There will be a 4-5 pm session. It is a one hour blocks meant to knock off the rust, get some last minute fine-tuning in and get used to the fields, brand new football and myself.

5. Is there a hotel you recommend for the Long Snappers and their parents? Yes, we have a group rate with the JW Marriott. It is about one mile from the fields and is superb.

6. When should we book flights? Plan on arriving on Friday and either leaving after 9 pm on Sunday evening (camp will end at 7 pm) or Monday morning. Please note: Monday, the 18th of January is a holiday. You will definitely want to be at the hotel for the Awards Show on Friday night (7 pm)

7. Is there a rental car company you recommend? Yes, for rental cars, follow these steps: Go to www.enterprise.com, Fill in the information as dates and times needed, In the optional area you will add L540231 and then click continue, The next screen will ask for a PIN which is RUB, Choose your car and enjoy the discount.

10532558_799769966765802_261675554708847939_n8. If I am playing another sport (basketball) on Friday, can I arrive on Saturday morning? Yes, but I MUST be notified as early as possible so I can put you in a later group on Saturday.

9. Why is VEGAS XXVII important? It is a major one for the recruitment of seniors since it is right before signing day, beyond important for the underclassmen as their recruiting will just be going into high gear and your only chance to be selected to the TOP 12 (the TOP 12  will be selected for the Invite Only TOP 12 and EVENT ELITE camp this summer in CA)

10. What do I get for attending VEGAS XXVII? The best on Long Snapping instruction in the world, a chance to meet the best Long Snappers in college and the NFL (they will be on hand assisting me all weekend), a Rubio Long Snapping shirt, a profile page with Rubio Long Snapping, a YouTube video to be used at your discretion, a chance to make the TOP 12 and the winner of the camp receives one year of free Rubio Long Snapping camps (accommodations and transportation not included).

You can register for VEGAS XXVII HERE

Where Are They Now? Rubio Long Snapper Brendan Lopez

NCAA FOOTBALL: OCT 16 Oregon State at WashingtonFor the next installment of “Where Are They Now?” we venture to Seattle, WA (Go Hawks!) to hear from Rubio Long Snapper Brendan Lopez. Brendan was a top Long Snapper for Rubio Long Snapping in 2007. He started off as a preferred walk-on to Michigan but came back to University of Washington and was put on full scholarship!

Check out what has been going on with Rubio Long Snapper Brendan Lopez….

1.  What is your current occupation?  I am currently in my last year at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. I will complete my training in June 2016 and pursue further speciality training in periodontics. I am also a Rubio Long Snapping staff member for the Seattle, WA area.

2. Where do you live? Seattle, WA.

3. Married/ Kids? Nooooooo

4. What is your fondest memory of your time playing college football? Spending time with my teammates. Whether is was during off season workouts, fall camp, traveling to away games or celebrating after a big win, the best part of college football were the friends and relationships that came from it.

5. If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snappers, what would it be? Be patient, enjoy the process and have a good life balance. Maintaining other areas of your life outside of football is very important. Don’t forget about friendships outside of football and focus on your education. Have a plan for after college and use football to help you get there.

6. If you could give ONE bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snapping PARENTS, what would it be? Never want something more than your kid does.

7. When was the last time you snapped a ball and for what reason? Vegas XXVI. Next one will be XXVII.

ELKJQDSGVNISCLQ.20130529005445 8.   If you could go back and play football in college again, would you go to the same school or a different one? Why? No doubt I would choose University of Washington again. I love Seattle and it’s an excellent school.

 9. Any regrets during college? Something you wish you had done or maybe hadn’t? Aim lower on my first snap at BYU. Sailing it for a safety with my parents in the stands was pretty embarrassing.

10.   What tremendous thing have you been a part of or experienced since you graduated? Celebrating in the streets of downtown Seattle after the Seahawks won Super Bowl 48. That was tremendous.

Happy Ranksgiving to the Class of 2017 Long Snappers

VEGAS XXV FinalsThe rankings are completed for ALL 2017 Long Snappers that participated in the Rubio Long Snapping National Event: VEGAS XXV!

Approximately 300 Long Snappers came in from nearly every state in the country and even Canada to learn from the best and get the most exposure possible for Long Snappers. This was what you call a true national event to see how you really compare against the best in the world. As I stated before, there is nothing like Vegas and this one definitely did not disappoint. Testimonials are coming in non-stop regarding the weekend.  With the addition of an agility and tackling station, athleticism really played a role in the rankings.

Next ranking opportunity will be at any Rubio Long Snapping spring and summer camp.

This group was simply amazing with the level of talent they brought out to the field on both days. I could make this post 20 pages long talking about each and every one of them. Here are the best of the best….

  • Thomas Fletcher: Fletcher is the first sophomore to win a VEGAS event.  He was absolute nails under pressure and acted as if it was just a given that he would win the whole thing from the start….love that. His form is very good (could move his butt down just a tad) and he uses his whole body really well. This kid is flat out very good for his age and is almost ready for college now.
  • Mitch Hall: He is snapping with some confidence and the more of that he snaps with, the better he will be in the long run.  Hall has VERY good starting form. The more he trusts it, the higher he goes in the rankings.  Athletically, he moved pretty darn well.  He moved quickly and got up quickly through the agility and tackling station. I love this kid’s attitude. You should keep a very close eye on him.
  • Nate Durham: It looks like there is going to be a severe battle for the top spot in the coming months for the class of 2017.  Durham could easily take the lead. His form is VERY good and he is snapping the ball with good speed. He needs to make sure his eyes are getting all the way through for more speed, accuracy and consistency.  Athletically, he moves well for his size but needs to be able to control his body a bit more when moving forward and laterally over the bags. He has TONS of potential. He should be seriously thinking about EVENT ELITE at VEGAS XXVI.
  • Jeremiah Riordan:  Riordan is really moving forward and he is doing it quickly.  I loved what I saw at VEGAS XXV.   This kid has very good size for his age and solid form.  He is using his whole body really well and snaps with power.  I would love to see him have no hiccups with his eyes/head as he drives them through his legs.  That will help with accuracy, consistency and speed.  Athletically, he moved fast and tackled well. Being a little more agile will be something I will be looking for at VEGAS XXVI. Very good upside with this kid.
  • Jake Hess: He is snapping with very good confidence and really letting the ball fly out of his hands. One of the best parts about Hess is how coachable he is….you tell him to work on something, give him some time, you come back and it is done.  He will make a coach very happy in the coming years.  He is driving his head through well and snapping with good power.  Athletically, he needs to make sure he focuses on all aspects of the agility and tackling station or he will remain stuck at 4 stars for some time. He has a VERY good attitude.
  • Kasey Kelleher: This kid has wonderful form and is snapping a nice, crisp ball that has some very good pop on it. I would love to see him lean back a bit more to ensure more power and consistency.  Athletically, he moves well on his feet and has good control all around. Kelleher has tons of potential and could take the top spot at VEGAS XXVI.
  • Joe Calcagno: He is snapping with good form and he is using his body well. It is really simple for Calcagno….the harder he snaps, the better he does in all aspects of his snapping. Athletically, I want him to not be too timid and attack every movement.  This includes the tackling aspect of the agility and tackling drill. He has good potential.
  • Matthew Smith: He is very athletic and moved flawlessly through the agility and tackling section of VEGAS XXV.  I would love to see him lower his butt a bit more to really gain some speed on the ball.  Dropping two inches lower will get him to be consistently in the .7 second range. Smith’s form is very good and he is right on the cusp of greatness. I am telling you, keep a VERY close eye on this kid at VEGAS XXVI and beyond.
  • Devin Noth: He is built long and has a frame that will be able to put on some good weight in the coming years. His hands are like rockets and the ball jumps out of the gate.  So fast in fact, Noth is almost hard to time. He needs to really make sure he gets his eyes and head all the way through to be more accurate and consistent. Athletically, he might be the smoothest in all of his class. He dominated the agility and tackling station. You need to watch this kid VERY closely.  He made a massive jump in the rankings.
  • Trevor Dhabalt: He is one of those Long Snappers that shows waves of brilliance. Some snaps are exceptional and some need work. I would love to see him lift his release point a bit and really snap with full power at all times. When he tries to aim the ball, it dies and we don’t want that.  Dhabalt’s form is good and he needs to trust it. Athletically, he moves smooth and with purpose. Controlling his body will help at VEGAS XXVI.

Notables: John Davis, Jake Pagel, Jacob Rubenstein, Austin Reeves, Kyle O’Connor, Caleb Lawver, & Ryan Culbertson.

KEY POINTS:

  • My rankings are NOT done just from The Rubio Target
  • My rankings are NOT done from some mathematical formula.
  • My rankings ARE done by me and only me. That is why they take a good amount of time. (Think of it this way, it takes MONTHS to build a Rolls Royce but only hours to build an average car)

Happy Ranksgiving to the Class of 2015 Long Snappers

VEGAS XXV FinalsThe rankings are completed for ALL 2015 Long Snappers that participated in the Rubio Long Snapping National Event: VEGAS XXV!

  • Blake Ferguson was like a machine. Every thing you hear about him is true, plus more. He is that good.
  • Wesley Farnsworth is, easily, the most athletic Long Snapper in the country and I would put him up against any other high school player and still have my money on Farnsworth.
  • Liam McCullough has rockets for hands and catches fire.
  • AJ Carty will put a hole in his punter if he is not paying attention. Timed him several times in the .5s!
  • Tyler Griffiths has never once looked better after a camp. Kid is always improving.
  • Michael Poujol is, by far, the best available Long Snapper in the country.
  • Grant Gluhaich was simply amazing all weekend. Fire comes off his ball it is moving so quickly. Missed winning by two inches.
  • Jordan Ober handles pressure as well anyone in the country.
  • Hayden Sak is a massive man with tons of potential and talent.
  • Travis Baugus was on fire and snapping with great confidence. Passes an eyeball test quickly.
  • Drew McCracken is a pure athlete that rips the ball back to the punter.
  • Ryan Simmons was oozing confidence and he was outstanding all weekend.

Vegas XXV Average Snap Speeds

Here are the average snap speeds from VEGAS XXV in alphabetical order.

For the speed of the snap, the clock started as soon as the Long Snapper began the snapping motion and the clock stopped when the ball hit the target.  If the ball missed the target completely, the time was recorded as one second.  Each Long Snapper’s average was calculated from 12 various snaps on Sunday while using the Rubio Target as well as by Rubio.

VEGAS XXV Contest with SoloShot!

"Rubioing" at it's finest!

“Rubioing” at it’s finest!

Every year, Sailer and I have a contest as we head towards our big Vegas Events. The contest usually entails a Long Snapper, kicker or punter taking a creative photo either “Rubioing” if you are a Long Snapper or “Sailering” if you are a kicker/punter.

Since VEGAS XXV is going to be the biggest and best Vegas Event we have ever had, we have stepped up the game.

SoloShot has told us they want in on the contest and they are putting up a BIG prize for the winners.

The contest entails you must follow @SOLOSHOTupdates on Twitter and Instagram, then whenever taking you’re desired photo of “Rubioing” or “Sailering” en route to VEGAS XXV, tag @TheChrisRubio (obviously if you are a Long Snapper) or @Chris_Sailer (if you are a kicker/punter) as well as tagging @SOLOSHOTupdates on Twitter AND Instagram. One winner will be selected by Rubio / SoloShot and the other by Sailer /SoloShot for most creative post.

The winners will be announced on Saturday at 8 pm pst. and will receive a Base and Tag package. retail value of $399 This package will keep you’re desired camera pointed at you from up to 2,000ft away capturing all of you’re training sessions.

May the best Long Snapper and kicker/punter win! Game on!
