What Do You Get at a Rubio Long Snapping Camp?

INSTRUCTION – There is simply no doubt that you will receive the best instruction in the country at a Rubio Long Snapping camp. It is unprecedented and known by college and NFL coaches throughout the country. When you sign up for a Rubio Long Snapping camp, you get perfection. I am there, my senior staff is there, on time and we don’t leave early.

EXPOSURE – Every camp that Rubio Long Snapping run offers the most exposure possible for Long Snappers. I bombard several avenues to make sure my Long Snappers are visible to all. The Rubio Long Snapping YouTube Channel has over 970,000 views (this is all just for Long Snapper….NO kickers are on the page). RubiosBlog.com has been viewed well over 1,000,000 times. @TheChrisRubio on Twitter has over 5,750 followers (many of which are coaches) and the Rubio Long Snapping Facebook Page has over 5,600 followers (many of which are coaches) and stories in publications all over the world make Rubio Long Snapping the one stop shop for the most exposure in the country.

PLAYER PROFILE PAGE – As soon as you perform in a camp in the fall (or after) of your freshman year, you get a PLAYER PROFILE PAGE….for free! This player profile page is controlled by me and it can have any information you wanted added to it at anytime. You can use it for your recruiting purposes throughout high school.

RANKINGS – As soon as you perform in a camp in the fall (or after) of your freshman year, you get a ranking. I don’t rank off a target. I don’t rank off a formula. That would be ignorant. I rank off of THIS blog that describes what makes a Long Snapper great. That ranking can be adjusted anytime I see you live. Coaches look to these rankings religiously in their recruiting of Long Snappers.

YOUTUBE VIDEO – At every single Rubio Long Snapping camp you attend, you will be filmed for a YouTube video. Those videos will be placed on your free player profile page. You can use the video at your own discretion. It is yours and there is no extra charge for this service.

FILM SESSION – At Rubio Long Snapping camps, I will go in with you to a classroom and review the morning sessions. Long Snappers attend but I really want the parents/guardians to attend as well since this is when a majority of the learning will take place.

RECRUITING SEMINAR – At Rubio Long Snapping camp, Chris Sailer and I run an hour long recruiting seminar where we hit on some key topics and always open it up to a Q&A session for the specialists and parents. You will not leave without all your questions answered.

PROVEN SUCCESS – Dont’ believe me? See what others have to say HERE

RUBIO LONG SNAPPING SHIRT – You know, to wear at prom and such:)

Trust me when I tell you, I could keep this list going and going and going. Things like Friendship, Confidence, Humor are just some immediate things that pop into my head….see you soon! Remember, Not only on the field, but off. I am not your coach. I am your Rubio and I will be there for you.

2016 FBU Camps

FBU CAMPS

Army All-Americans 2015

Once again, Rubio Long Snapping and Chris Sailer Kicking will be teaming up with FBU to run the specialists portion of their camps. FBU is the world’s largest football training service and has hired us to handle their Long Snapping section. It is an honor and we are proud to do it again. It is a top notch organization that benefits countless athletes across the country.

Rubio Long Snapping will be running more camps than EVER. This year I will only be at the TOP GUN CAMP.  All other locations will have two Rubio Long Snapping Senior Instructors in attendance (staff members that have been with me for well over 30 camps). They will follow the same format as myself and report directly to FBU and yours truly.

These camps do have smaller numbers than our regional camps and are MUCH more instructional based.

Rubio Long Snapping will be choosing the two Long Snappers that will participate in the US ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL at the FBU TOP GUN CAMP in South Carolina on July 14-15. Rubio Long Snapping will also be selecting the East Bay Youth All-American for the Class of 2019 (Freshman All-American Bowl) and 2020 (8th Grade All-American Bowl) at the FBU TOP GUN CAMP in South Carolina on July 14-15.

You MUST be invited to the TOP GUN camp by performing well at one of the regional camps prior to the TOP GUN Camp. Bottom line, you will have to do well at one of the camps, that our staff  is in attendance at, to pick up an invite from myself and/or one of my senior instructors.

Rubio Long Snapping NFL Camp

291116_2368646975707_1857804060_oRubio Long Snapping has an excellent tradition of high school, college and NFL success.  Established in 1999, Chris Sailer & Chris Rubio have worked with thousands of youth, high school, college and professional kickers, punters and long snappers.

Over the years, they built strong and lasting relationships with high school, college and NFL coaches.  The trust that has been built based on on the field training/technique, evaluations and recommendations is untouchable.

NFL coaches have asked us to step deeper into the NFL recruitment process and the Long Snappers have asked us to set up a non-biased camp that simply showcases their talents for the NFL. We have made that happen with coaches present and high quality video being shot for each Long Snapper.

After the camp, Rubio Long Snapping will send out a detailed evaluation of each Long Snapper. This simple email sparked SEVERAL NFL tryouts last year.

Rubio Long Snapping and Chris Sailer Kicking will hold its 2nd Annual NFL combine March 17th in Las Vegas, NV.

CONTEST FOR A FREE VEGAS XXVIII

Long Snappers are obviously incredible athletes built with dashing good looks, but are they also creative and intelligent?Obvious answer is YES, but let’s see what we are dealing with throughout the world.

Every Vegas, I try to have a contest to give away a FREE admission to my Vegas Event. This year will be no different.

And, since I know my Long Snappers can tend to be a bit apprehensive about doing any extra work, I have created a contest with the least amount of work in the history of Rubio Long Snapping.

RUBIO LONG SNAPPING HAIKU CONTEST

WHO: Any Long Snapper ranging from 8th grade to second year of JC that would like a chance to earn a FREE admission to VEGAS XXVIII!

WHAT: You must create an original Haiku (s) that pertains to Long Snapping AND Vegas. For those of that don’t know, a Haiku is simply a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five. If you don’t know what a poem or a syllable is, bless your heart and start focusing more in school for the love of all that is holy.

Two examples of haikus would be…

Determination
Can make the impossible
Possible for all

A full day of fun
Lots of eating and resting
Football on the tube

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Be funny, be creative, don’t be bland. Stand out. Have fun with this “assignment”
  • You can enter ONLY one time, but can have a total of three haikus
  • Each haiku must be on the same page and must be hand-printed by the Long Snapper (if I can’t read it, it won’t get read). If you have one haiku, you will have just one page for me. If you have two haikus, you will have only one page for me. If you have three haikus, you will have only one page for me.
  • I will not accept faxed, emailed, scanned, texted or typed haikus
  • You must have them mailed to me (yes, in an envelope with a stamp on it) to…
    RUBIO
    1104 Richardson Ave.
    Lewiston, ID. 83501

WHEN: The entries must be in my mailbox by no later than March 16th, 2016. FYI: I do NOT live in a big city. Mail can take a looooong time to get to me. Plan ahead as I will NOT take any late entries.

WHERE: You must have them mailed to me (yes, in an envelope with a stamp on it) to…

RUBIO
1104 Richardson Ave.
Lewiston, ID. 83501

WHY: To earn a free admission to VEGAS XXVIII! The winner will be announced on March 21st, 2016 (early registration deadline). The winner will get their admission covered by me. The winner will still be responsible for travel and accommodations.

How to Get an Unofficial Recruiting Trip

Ask. Seriously, that is all you have to do . Call the football office (THE PLAYER CALLS) and say the following when they answer…
“Hi, my name is ___________ and I am a Rubio Long Snapper in the class of ____. (if you want to brag about your ranking, here is where you would do it). I am very interested in going to, and being recruited by,  _____(insert name of school)_____. I am looking to get put on the UNOFFICIAL RECRUIT LIST for your game vs. __________. What is the next step?”
At this point, they will most likely ask you some basic questions…(Name again, school, address, etc.). Answer them all because then you will be in their database and start getting more stuff from the school. Please note: if this is done during the off-season, you simply tell them what day(s) you will be on campus and they will do the rest. Couple Points….
  • The difference between an OFFICIAL RECRUITING TRIP and an UNOFFICIAL RECRUITING TRIP is that the athlete pays his way on the UNOFFICIAL RECRUITING TRIP
  • You can take AS MANY unofficial recruiting trips as you’d like. You are only allowed five official recruiting trips.
  • The bigger the game, the bigger the recruit you have to be in order to get those tickets. If you are not an absolute stud, you most likely won’t get a big time rivalry game.
  • You can start this process anytime, but usually sophomore year is good to let it rain.
  • Dress accordingly. Look clean and presentable. Rubio Long Snapping shirt or sweatshirt is always a good choice.
  • If you are too thin, wear thermals. If you are too heavy, wear something that fits well. If you are built well, wear something tight to show off what you got. Unofficial visits are a good way for a coach to see if you pass the eyeball test. Make sure you pass.
  • If parents go with the athlete, make sure the parents have a lot of taffy in their mouths so they don’t speak. Remember, the coach doesn’t want to hear from the parents. He wants to hear from the athlete.

National Signing Day

Cole Mazza Signing

Rubio Long Snapper Cole Mazza signing with Alabama

Today is a National Signing Day for football (there are two, one in December and one in February). High school and JC football players around the country will be signing on the dotted line to play for their respective schools. It is a great time of the year for all involved. It is Signing Day. It is covered by major sports affiliates and it begins the process of which college will dominate tomorrow with the stellar high school athletes of today.

With all the hoopla, comes questions….let me clear some things up for everyone. These are all from questions I have received over the years. Here you go and be sure to reference back to THIS blog I wrote about the difference between a full ride, a preferred walk-on and a standard walk-on:

Is Signing Day the only day an athlete can sign with a college?
Absolutely not. It is just the first official day for the seniors to make their commitment official. A scholarship athlete can sign anytime on or after that day. You can literally sign the day you get on campus if you are a late pick-up for a school. The whole Signing Day is just a lot of pomp and circumstance that the media has turned it into an event.

Do Preferred Walk-Ons sign on Signing Day?
No, they do not officially sign anything. However, many schools and parents like to have a simple ceremony that represents signing. A preferred walk-on, although verbally committed to a school is NOT locked into that respective school. They have the option to change their mind to another school at any point if a scholarship comes their way. Not exactly the most kosher thing to do to a coach/program but they would most likely understand. I look at it like this, an athlete not taking a scholarship would be similar to a person not taking a free car and opting to pay for the same car.

If I sign with a college on scholarship, can I adjust after?
Sure, BUT you can transfer with the new transfer portal BUT it can be tricky. Some schools like an older transfer (already graduated from previous school) and some don’t. Think about it, why would a coach want an athlete that could not fit in at their first stop? A transfer athlete always brings up red flags…why is it going to work this time, why did he not get along with players and coaches at the first school, it is a homesick issue, is he a problem case, schooling? All are questions that a new coach is going to want to know about you. Bottom line, make your decision and stick with it. This can be a big gamble.

How do the schools get the athletes signatures?
Most athletes sign in the early morning and then fax them in to their new home (school).

Why have a Signing Day?
It is the day your verbal commitment becomes official.

Can a junior that is offered a scholarship sign early?
Nope. They must wait just like the others within his graduating class. All of this waiting around gives way to all the committing and de-committing which coaches and sports writers absolutely love (dripping with sarcasm).

Is it true that scholarships have to be renewed every year by the school?
Yes. This is one of those things that not a lot of people know about but it is true. Every single year, the staff has to renew your scholarship for the next year. Therefore, if you are not producing as an athlete, student or person, your scholarship can not be renewed. It is not very common for it to happen, but I have witnessed it occur. Usually, a social issue is the final straw in saying bye bye to your education being paid for by the school.

What can go wrong with the Signing Day process?
Several things and most involve the fax machine. If the exact form is not sent in signed properly, the deal is not sealed. Many schools have lost an athlete because the Letter of Intent was faxed upside down, backwards or just not clear. Then, when they tell the student-athlete to do it again, said athlete often takes it as an omen that it wasn’t meant to be and poof! a new school is chosen. Trust me, it does happen.

All in all, Signing Day is a great thing that should be cherished by all but definitely don’t feel as though it is the end all be all. No matter when you sign, you are still going to be on full scholarship with your school paid for, and that is the most important thing.

In just 12 years,  Chris Rubio, President and Owner of Rubio Long Snapping, has become the #1 Long Snapping instructor in the country and the go-to man when a college coach needs a Long Snapper. Colleges from across the country rely on “Rubio’s” word day in and day out on who the best Long Snappers are in the country. Rubio Long Snapping has assisted in over 300 Long Snappers earning FULL SCHOLARSHIPS to major colleges and universities just for Long Snapping and many into the NFL as well.

You’re a Senior, Now What?

So, you are a 2016 Long Snapper and you are most likely really getting stressed out about the next four years of your life. Either you are committed already and think you are the greatest or you haven’t committed and are wondering what is next?

This blog is going to be in two parts….first for the UNCOMMITTED, second for the COMMITTED.

For the UNCOMMITTED

  • First off, CHILL! It is still early in the recruiting process, trust me. Doubt me, read THIS then read it again.
  • Second, do NOT slack on your grades. Nothing worse than getting a call from a school but you can’t go to them because your grades aren’t up to par.
  • Continue to work with a Rubio Long Snapping staff member and DOMINATE all Rubio Long Snapping camps in your area (yes, you can AND should keep going to Rubio Long Snapping camps when you are a senior). You never know when the right school is going to contact me looking for a Long Snapper like you. You should still be going to Rubio Long Snapping camps in your area to get ready for VEGAS XXVIII in May. May Vegas is essentially your last chance to make it happen.
  • Fourth, you are the “old” guy at the camps now so you need to act like it…be mature, be confident, be nice to the young guys as you were once them.

For the COMMITTED

  • First off, NEVER, EVER STOP getting better. There is nothing that will upset a coach more than having a scholarship or preferred walk-on Long Snapper come into camp looking sloppy. They will EASILY be able to tell you if you haven’t improved since the time they recruited you. Don’t be that guy.
  • Second, do NOT slack on your grades. Sadly, I have had a kid lose a scholarship because his final semester grades slacked so much.
  • Third, NEVER stop improving and getting ready for the next stage of your life. Work with a Rubio Long Snapping staff member and DOMINATE all Rubio Long Snapping camps in your area. (yes, you can AND should keep going to Rubio Long Snapping camps when you are a senior)
  • Fourth, you are the “old” guy at the camps now so you need to act like it…be mature, be confident, be nice to the young guys as you were once them.

Where Are They Now? Rubio Long Snapper Gabriel Miller

For the next installment of Where Are They Now? we head to Lincoln, Nebraska to see how a career ending injury didn’t stop Rubio Long Snapper Gabriel Miller (#4 for the class of 2013, full ride to Nebraska)….

What is your current occupation?

I am the founder and CEO of Bella Baby Nuts, LLC. I broke my back in the summer of 2014, and had surgery that fall. After undergoing a 6 hour surgery I was unable to do Gabe Miller and Rubioanything but stand up for close to a month, so I started messing around in the kitchen with some raw pecans. And after many months of perfecting my own candied pecan recipe I decided to turn it into a business. We have now been in business for almost a year and are growing rapidly. If anyone would like to see the fun things we are up to they can check out our website at http://www.bellababynuts.com/ or www.facebook.com/BellaBabyNuts. I am also still a full time student at the University of Nebraska and I am the Rubio Long Snapping Instructor for the state of Nebraska. Oh and during the summers I breed high end Japanese Koi fish on my small koi farm back in Indiana.

*Rubio Note: I have had some Bella Baby Nuts and they are FANTASTIC! I highly recommend them for a Christmas snack at your holiday parties!

Where do you live?

My wife and I currently live in Lincoln, Nebraska. We will be in Nebraska for at least another 3 years, my wife has 3 more years in her PhD program for Math Education. After my wife finishes her PhD we plan to hopefully move back to Indiana.

Married? Kids?

I am married to my beautiful wife Erica Miller. We got married last January so we are coming up on our first anniversary. And we do not have kids at the moment, except for our English Bulldog, Bella.

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 1.27.38 AMWhat is your fondest memory of your time playing college football?

My fondest moment from playing college football is definitely when we played Penn State at Happy Valley my true freshman season. It was a late day/ night game and it started to snow in the second half. We were neck and neck the whole way, and the game went into overtime. With a chance to win the game we lined up for a game winning 42 yard field goal. With 100,000 fans and the Penn State student section at our faces it was pretty crazy. I snapped a pearl back to Sam Foltz my holder and Pat Smith nailed it for the walk off field goal. It was an awesome experience and to top it off Pat and I were named special teams players of the game.

If you could give one bit of advice to Rubio long snappers, what would it be?

My advise to current Rubio Long Snappers is to always keep the end goal in mind. If you can remember what you want your life to look like 5, 10, 15, 30 years down the line then going through some short term pain will be worth it to accomplish your goals in life as well as in football.

If you could give one bit of advice to the current Rubio Long Snapping parents, what would it be?

My advice to the parents is to be supportive of your sons. Your son is embarking on one of the toughest journeys in all of sports, and that is to get a scholarship for Long Snapping and play college football. This adds a ton of pressure to his already hectic life as a teenager, so the biggest thing you could do is support him during this crazy time. There were times when it seemed life was ending because I wasn’t getting where I wanted in my Long Snapping, but my parents supported me and gave me confidence that if I continued to work hard the results would follow. And at the time I was given a full ride scholarship from the University of Nebraska and ranked as the number 2 Long Snapper in my class, there was no one I wanted to share that moment with more than with my parents who had supported me during the whole process.

When was the last time you snapped a ball and for what reason.

The last time I really snapped a football was during the summer of 2014 before I broke my back. Unfortunately bending over and throwing my head through my legs is one of the things I am unable to do anymore (haha).

If you could go back and play football in college again, would you go to the same school or a different one? Why?

I was fortunate enough to have multiple scholarship offers coming out of high school and am extremely glad I chose to spend my college career at the University of Nebraska, and would do it again if I had the choice. The support that we received as student athletes was top notch and the whole environment around Lincoln is awesome. Getting to snap in front of 90,000 crazy Cornhusker fans every Saturday was fantastic. And I met my wife here in Lincoln, so I would say my decision turned out to be a good one.

What tremendous thing have you been a part of or experienced since you graduated?

The thing that has changed my outlook on my future the most is my newly found love for books. In all honesty I had read probably 3 books in the first 19 years of my life, but after my back surgery I began to start to read. I am a huge leadership and entrepreneurial junkie, and have been reading a book a week for going on two years now. The saying is that leaders are readers, and that is so true. I truly believe the knowledge and wisdom of Americas greatest men and women can be used for our benefit if we just open some books and turn a lot of pages.

Where Should a Long Snapper Hit? The Rubio Zone

The Rubio Zone is EXACTLY where the Long Snapper should hit the punter for best accuracy on a punt snap. The Rubio Zone is from the punter’s mid thigh to his lowest rib and no wider than their armpits.

Anything above the lowest rib could cause the punter to turn his hand’s over which will force him to flip them back over to punt the ball. Anything below the punter’s mid thigh will cause the punter to bend and that could throw off their timing. Anything outside of the armpits will force the punter to step one way or the other.

The Rubio Zone is the perfect location and what every Long Snapper should try to hit on every single snap. Anything outside of The Rubio Zone will negatively impact your overall snap time, as well as total get off time (snap, catch and punt).
