VEGAS 30 – RSI Scores

At VEGAS 30, each Long Snapper was tested on The Rubio Long Snapping Target.

The RSI is an excellent way for a participant to truly show how good of a Long Snapper they are as it balances the accuracy along with the speed of the ball, plus it will show how well the Long Snapper grows through each and every Rubio Long Snapping camp. Also, the RSI‘s will be posted on each Long Snappers profile after every camp they attend.  Please note: the RSI does not account for athleticism, spiral or mentality.

RSI‘s can range from zero to basically 80 (if a Long Snapper was to get a score 48 points and averaged .65 on their punt snaps). I believe the highest I have ever encountered a 65.22 by Ross Reiter at the AZ Spring Camp. The 12 finalists at VEGAS XXIX all had above 50’s on their RSI and that was a record. A 30 is usually pretty darn solid.

Please Note: The RSI is not completely how your Rubio Long Snapping ranking will be calculated as there are many factors to being a great Long Snapper. The main things that each Long Snapper will be ranked on are the following:

  • Speed (should be less than .75 for a 15 yard punt snap)
  • Accuracy (all snaps should be in The Rubio Zone)
  • Consistency (a college coach is going to want to see how consistent you are with your speed…if you can snap a .75, your snaps should be right around there, well, consistently)
  • Mentality (how well do you handle pressure)
  • Athleticism (do you move well or does it look like you are in pain when moving)
  • Size (an ideal Long Snapper would be about 6’3″ and 235)
  • Spiral (does the ball look pretty, slice through the wind and easy to catch)
  • Blocking (will you be able to withstand a major college rush) If you have ever been to a Rubio Long Snapping Vegas Event, you know that one of the main parts of competition day is when each Long Snapper gets tested on The Rubio Long Snapping Target.

As always, Rubio Long Snapping will be offering up a FREE ADMISSION to VEGAS 30 Contest!

This one should be very easy and, therefore, I will not be giving a lot of time to finish it. It is simply going to be a caption  contest.  The best caption (or captions, there are two people in the photo so you can choose) for the following photo will win a FREE ADMISSION to VEGAS 30 (admission is covered, you will have to take care of hotel, food and travel).

With no further adieu, here is the winning picture…..

WHO CAN ENTER: Any Long Snapper looking to earn a FREE ADMISSION to VEGAS 30 ranging the class of 2021 to 2017.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO: Simply email me (Rubio@RubioLongSnapping.com) the best caption for the picture. You can only enter once and the title of the email should read: Your Name, Vegas 3o Contest. Your caption(s) should be in quotations in the body of the email.

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DO IT: You don’t but you probably should if you want a FREE ADMISSION to VEGAS 30! You seriously can’t be that lazy. If you win and you have already purchased VEGAS 30, I will push your free admission to VEGAS XXXI in January.

VEGAS XXIX RSI Scores

Here, in alphabetical order, are the RSI scores from VEGAS XXIX! The top 12 scorers (found in bold below) advanced to the finals.

All Long Snappers were tested on The Rubio Target. Each Long Snapper was tested on 12 punt snaps where they had three normal snaps, three blocking left, three blocking right, three speed punt snaps (running in from the side and have three seconds to get the ball off once their feet are set) and 12 pat snaps where they had three normal snaps, three blocking left, three blocking right, three speed punt snaps (running in from the side and have three seconds to get the ball off once their feet are set). Once the Long Snapper has completed the test, they earn an RSI which is the fairest and most accurate way to judge a Long Snapper by numbers. Please note: the RSI does not account for athleticism, spiral or mentality.

RSI (Rubio Standard Index): The RSI is the score divided by the average speed on The Rubio Target. You may obtain 2 bonus points for an average of .75-.79, 2 more bonus points for an average of .70-.74 and an additional 2 more bonus points if you average below .70.

——————————————————————————————————————————

The National Long Snapper of the Year is named in honor of Chris Rubio for his outstanding high school career and nearly single handedly changing the world of long snapping.  Chris is now the most prominent private long snapping coach in America.  He has made the position of long snapping a specialty and revered around the country through his website, as well as camps.  Through his training and development of young long snappers, dozens of high school long snapping specialists now receive full ride scholarships each year for their skill in that position.

Chris Rubio played high school football for Charter Oak High School in California from 1989-1992.  He was part of team that won the league championship in 1992 serving as the teams Long Snapper and left tackle.  He was voted Center of the Century in the San Gabriel Valley.  His long snapping ability earned him a spot on the UCLA football team where he was a 3-year starter at Long Snapper for three All-Americans.

NEW Prep Camp Format!

John Finch

You asked for it and you got it! Rubio Long Snapping will be holding THREE VEGAS XXIX PREP CAMPS on January 8th, 2016. The three locations will be California, Texas and Georgia.

Jeff Abraham

The PREP CAMPS will be only four hours long, are half the cost, and will be run as an EXACT replica of what a Long Snapper will be seeing on Sunday, January 15th at VEGAS XXIX.

These camps are the best way to get a Long Snapper fully prepared mentally and physically for what they will experience at VEGAS XXIX.

Rubio will be running the California camp, Senior Staff member John Finch will be running the Texas camp and Senior Staff member Jeff Abraham will be in charge of the Georgia camp.

  • Three letters of recommendation (scanned and emailed to Rubio@RubioLongSnapping.com) from a current coach, a current teacher and a reporter that covers their area explaining why the Long Snapper deserves to win this prestigious award (that is THREE total letters).

2nd Annual Rubio Long Snapper George Steward Award

Steward, GeorgeTo honor Rubio Long Snapper George Steward, let’s do this again!

If you have been following me on social media the past year, you know that the Rubio Long Snapping family suffered a terrible loss with the tragic death of Rubio Long Snapper George Steward one year ago today.

George was simply waiting at an intersection, with his long time girlfriend, when an out of control car crushed his car and ended his, and his girlfriend’s lives. They were 18 years old.

If you knew George, even for a second, you knew he was always smiling and having a good time. His smile was infectious. He was a big man with a big heart and an even bigger smile.

George was the perfect reflection of a Rubio Long Snapper.

I have spoken to his mom several times over the past couple of years. She is obviously extremely distraught over what has occurred but wants George to live on with Rubio Long Snapping. She told me he was extremely proud to be a Rubio Long Snapper (look at his graduation announcement) and was always in a Rubio shirt.

IMG_2474

George’s mom, Adrienne De La Fuente, wants to create a VEGAS scholarship in George’s name. She wants to sponsor a deserving Long Snapper that wants to go to VEGAS but possibly doesn’t have the means. She asked me to create the criteria, so here we go….

WHO: Any Long Snapper from 7th grade to 2nd year of JC

WHAT: This award will go simply to a happy Long Snapper. In honor of George, who was ALWAYS smiling and happy, this award will go to someone on that same page. To enter, you need to include at least three pictures of you with a genuine smile. Three more with you around others smiling and two letters of recommendation (yup, you guessed it, just stating you are happy person) from a family member and someone at your school.

WHEN: All entries must be in my hand by November 14th. Now, to make things easier this year, they can be mailed OR scanned and emailed to me at Rubio@RubioLongSnapping.com

WHERE: All entries must be mailed to me at the following address:
Rubio Long Snapping
1104 Richardson Ave.
Lewiston, ID. 83501

If you win this award but have already signed up for VEGAS XXIX, I will push your win to VEGAS 30!

George without copy copy

UPDATE!!!!

jaden-sanchez8209And the winner, chosen by George’s mother Adrienne, is going to be Rubio Long Snapper Jaden Sanchez!

Here is just one testimonial about Jaden and his smile…

“Jaden Sanchez, a freshman at Bakersfield High School and 14 years old, sounds a lot like George… always smiling.  Jaden’s smile is infectious and makes everyone around him happier.  Jaden has faced many obstacles in his life but nothing keeps him from having that huge smile on his face.  Finding out about 4 years ago that he was diagnosed with alopecia and loosing every hair on his body was hard for him but he still found a way to stay positive and always had/has a smile on his face.  We would be at the dermatologist’s office with him and even when going thorough treatments and getting 16 shots in his head, I remember him having a smile on his face.  Jaden is a great young man with a great attitude on life… it shows in that awesome smile!”

BIG Changes to the TOP 12 Camp!

Rubio top 12 CampAs you all know, at every January Vegas Event, Chris Sailer and I choose the TOP 12 Long Snappers, Kickers and Punters. Then, at our May Vegas Event, Sailer and I choose the “Event Elite” which is made up of the top Long Snappers, Kickers and Punters over the weekend. Together, they combine and form the exclusive TOP 12 & EVENT ELITE camp during the summer. This is the cream of the crop talent wise and over 90% of these athletes end up in college with many headed off to the NFL.

This year, things will be different….MUCH different.

In order to create the maximum amount of targeted exposure for our athletes we have decided to make a few changes. These new changes will allow us to showcase which Long Snappers, kickers, and punters are truly ready to compete at the next level.

At each of our Vegas Events, Vegas XXIX and Vegas 30, Sailer and I will select 20 athletes that dominated each camp and we feel could potentially be ready for the next level.

We will also have a maximum of FIVE Wild Card invites each that we can give throughout the year. Our choice. Any camp. All on us and what we have seen and/or read about throughout the year.

Curious as to what I am looking for in a Long Snapper, click HERE

Now, here is where things REALLY get interesting. During the summer, at The TOP 12 camp  (the term “Event Elite” is officially retired), not only will the athletes have to perform on the field, they will have to perform off the field as well. Each athlete will undergo a full interview process along with several meetings so that we can really grasp who they are and how they will handle the life of a college and/or pro athlete.

As soon as each Long Snapper, kicker, or punter receives their respective invitation to this prestigious camp, they will be mailed a black shirt with yellow writing. At the end of the camp, when we unveil the TOP 12, each one of those campers will receive the elusive yellow shirt AND a full special outfit designed by Adidas specifically for those campers.

Stay with me here, The TOP 12 will be chosen at the end of the camp. They will be selected at individual meetings in a war room at the end of camp while the other Long Snappers will be waiting and feeling the pressure, wondering “How many spots are left?”

They will be selected by their mental and physical ability over the three days of the camp.

Now, we will REALLY get to see who are The TOP 12 of Rubio Long Snapping and The TOP 12 of Chris Sailer Kicking!

VEGAS XXIX CONTEST!

As you know, for each VEGAS Event, Rubio Long Snapping will always have a contest to earn a FREE admission to VEGAS XXIX. This year will be a little different! Here we go:

WHO: Any Long Snapper from 7th grade to second year of Junior College that would like to attend VEGAS XXIX for free.

WHATRubio Long Snapping VEGAS XXIX Gives Back!

Over the years we have seen some excellent examples of Rubio Long Snappers giving back to their community.  I want to see which Rubio Long Snappers are out there already volunteering their time, being active leaders in their community and, if you are not, why aren’t you and it is now time to get off your butts to do so!

For this contest, I would like to see which Long Snappers are involved in their local charities or actively volunteer across the world. You will need to submit a video entry, no longer than two minutes in length. Your video will have to be uploaded to YouTube with the title: Your Name, Rubio Long Snapping VEGAS XXIX Gives Back, 2016.

Your video entry will have to clearly state who you are, where you are, what charity or volunteer organization you are involved in, and why you are passionate about volunteering with that specific group.

The overall focus of the video should be why giving back is important to you.  It doesn’t matter who or what you support or how you give back, just show us why and how you do!  If you pick up trash off the beach on weekends, awesome, tell us why that is important to you.  Do you hand out meals or blankets to those in need, tell us why it is you started volunteering in that specific way.  This is not a competition to see who can give back the “best”.  We just want to encourage the ENTIRE Rubio Long Snapping family to get out and volunteer.  Don’t stress or put too much thought into it and do not feel bad if you’ve been slacking, simply get up and go!

This video does NOT need to be done with high tech cameras or anything like that as simply creating an edited iMovie on your iPhone would be more than sufficient to get your point across to the Rubio Long Snapping family.

WHEN: All entries must be submitted to me by email (Rubio@RubioLongSnapping) by October 1st at noon pst.

WHERE: All across the world!

WHY: To motivate and energize the Rubio Long Snapping family to get out and help their community and those around them.  The most inspiring video entry will earn a free admission to VEGAS XXIX.

Remember, Long Snapping can take you far in life, but giving back to your community will take you even farther!

Vegas XXIX_Contest

Please Note: If you win the contest and are already registered for VEGAS XXIX, your free admission will be pushed to VEGAS XXX in May!
